Ever since Dillon Brooks helped Canada defeat USA in the FIBA match for bronze, he’s been on a roll. In one of his claims, he likened himself to NBA legend Kobe Bryant. Brooks said he likened himself to Bryant on the grounds that he embraces his villain role just like Kobe embraced his Mamba persona. This hasn’t sat well with NBA fans and players, with Robert Horry being the latest to comment on it.

Robert Horry, a seven-time NBA champion, was Kobe’s teammate for seven seasons. Upon hearing Dillon’s comments, he said, “You know he’s thinking he’s going to turn into Kobe later where everybody likes him. I still don’t think so because he’s already being a villain, and Kobe was not a villain; he just didn’t talk to nobody. He just didn’t relate to nobody.” Horry believes that there is a concrete difference between Kobe’s and Dillon’s persona. He believes Dillon is actively trying to be a menace to irritate his opponents, while Kobe simply alienated himself from others in his quest to win.

It appears Dillon Brooks has grown to love this new persona of his. According to him he uses it as a way to become a different player on the court and he has fully embraced the ”villain’ label.

Horry has maintained that Brooks is not on the same level as Kobe. He says that Kobe was always viewed as a competitor and not a villain. Additionally, he believes Brooks thinks embracing this persona will make people respect him when he retires. However, no matter what he is viewed as by others, Horry will never associate the personas of Bryant with Brooks.

Dillon’s Brooks comments have left the fans divided. Some have applaud Brooks’ courage for making the comparison and even agree with it. However, the majority of fans have absolutely trashed Brooks for even thinking of making the comparison. One fan said, “I never want to see Dillon Brooks in the same photo as Kobe ever again.” Even the Celtics Nation twitter account posted a tweet making fun of Brooks for even thinking of making the comparison.

It is clear that while Brooks may have completely embraced his villain persona, the people have not. Whether or not other NBA players agree with his statements is yet to be seen. It is clear however that Brooks enjoys creating a stir and is ready to stubbornly back any comment he makes.
