NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced that he plans to personally “check in” with Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant as his 25-game suspension from the league is coming to an end. The Grizzlies have taken a beating without Ja. His return creates a possibility for the franchise to elevate its position in the standings.

Silver in his media interaction addressed Morant’s return and said:

Yes, I have been monitoring the situation closely, and him. In fact, we intend to have a check-in this week directly, Ja and I, But folks in the league office, together with Ja and his team and the Players Association, have been in regular contact, essentially weekly. There have been those checkpoints.

Silver, ahead of the final game of the In-Season Tournament, addressed that he is going to closely monitor this situation. Ja was punished with a 25-game suspension after a video of him surfaced holding a firearm on social media.

He claimed that Ja is obligated to fulfill a program with the NBA to come back. Silver also mentioned that he is closely in contact with the player, his team, and the players’ association to ensure compliance with a program designed for his return.

He added:

We've, together, laid out a program for him over the last several weeks, and to the best of my knowledge, he's complied with everything he's been asked to do. As I said, we'll talk at least once this week before he comes back, and we will review the program and make sure the conditions are in place for him to be successful going forward.

The Grizzlies currently hold a record of six wins and 15 losses. They are currently placed at 13th in the Western Conference standings.

Ja Morant is set to appear in court before his return

Ja Morant is about to make his return to the NBA after his 25-game suspension on the 19th of December. He and his father are also set to make an appearance in the court to testify in a civil case against Joshua Halloway who was hit by Ja in a fight at a pickup basketball game.

The incident took place in July of 2022 when Morant got into a fight with young player Joshua Halloway. The lawyers representing Ja have asserted that the Grizzlies star guard had done that in an act of self-defense. Ja’s friend Davonte Pack, who was also involved in the fight, is also set to appear in court to testify.

The player, despite being on his tour with the Grizzlies, is set to testify in the middle of 11th December to 13th December. The main factor of this lawsuit is that the civil proceedings for the case in hand have nothing to do with the Star Guards’ 25-game suspension.
