“Ayton adding more firepower to LeBron’s 5th title” NBA executive hints at Lakers shipping Anthony Davis to Phoenix Suns

The Lakers have made some big moves this off-season such as offering LeBron the contract extension and trading for Pat Beverley. While the Lakers are currently trying their best to build their team to become a title-contending team, the acquisition of Pat Beverley is helpful but not enough. With reports of Westbrook definitely being moved out from Los Angeles, rumors of Anthony Davis also making his way out has come to light.

An anonymous executive told Heavy.com’s Sean Deveney that Davis could end up on the Suns possibly, “ They could do Cam Johnson and Ayton, something like that. I am sure some in L.A. would expect a big return for Davis but with the injuries the last few years, it would be tough to trade him. There’s a lot of reasons why they’d keep him but that is one – you’re not going to get fair value because of the injuries.”

While the Suns under contract cannot trade Deandre Ayton until January 15, the centre is a dominant force and a star in the making but even with Johnson as an attachment it still does not come close to a suitable deal if Anthony Davis is concerned. The Lakers may ask Phoenix for younger stars or even other assets if they want Anthony Davis on the team.

Lakers Willing To Depart With Ayton?

The trade is not one that seems possible, The Suns just do not have the value that could acquire Davis, even if Chris Paul were to be included. Additionally, the Lakers will be weary of such a trade as Devin Booker and Anthony Davis teaming up would make a seriously dangerous team.

Anthony Davis was a key performer in their 2020 championship, and when healthy, the forward is one of the best players in the league but over the last two years the problem has been just that, Davis has had injuries that sidelined him for a majority of the past two seasons not being able to contribute in the Laker’s runs. All this said, The Lakers best hope would not be to trade but keep Davis in the hopes that he remains healthy.
