“Sadly you’re not who I thought you were” NBA Fans blast Dejounte Murray for humiliating Spurs in latest rant
Dejounte Murray guarding Young of the Atlanta Hawks
Less than a month has passed since San Antonio was shocked by Dejounte Murray‘s surprise move from the Spurs. The affection and respect between the former player and the squad have been mutual in the days after Murray went out to join the Atlanta Hawks; the guard even referred to the Spurs as “first class.” All things considered, Murray’s latest social media comments, it is causing yet another quake in the city. Murray, an All-Star guard, was traded by the San Antonio Spurs to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for forward Danilo Gallinari and three first-round selections earlier this month.
First, Dejounte Murray tweeted—now deleted—about how free, wanted, and content he is, which may have been taken as a shot at his time spent in San Antonio. The situation then spilled over onto Instagram when some trolls started attacking Dejounte in the comments of his posts, to which the All-Star guard retaliated with some strongly worded remarks. That the newly anointed NBA All-Star having a good time in Atlanta is not surprising. He is, after all, a 25-year-old basketball player who is only starting his peak.
Dejounte Murray- The rising star of the league!
Dejounte Murray, a late first-round pick in 2016, is coming off his greatest season to date, in which he made the All-Star Game for the first time and led the league in steals. He shot 46.2 percent from the field and averaged 21.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, 9.2 assists, and two steals a game in which these are all career-high performances. He will now be paired with Trae Young by the Hawks to create one of the league’s top young backcourts. As the big bodied point guard won NBA All-Defensive 2nd Team honors in just his second season (2017-18), the six-year veteran immediately improves Atlanta’s backcourt on the defensive end.
NBA fans react to Dejounte Murray’s cryptic post.
The post attracted negative feedback from Spurs supporters, and Murray either realized it wasn’t being taken in the way he had intended it wasn’t worth the backlash it was generating. Since Murray is not renowned for exercising a lot of caution on social media, the entire situation was not particularly newsworthy at that time. This is how twitter reacted to Murray’s tweet:
Dejounte Murray used to always express his gratitude to the Spurs organisation for drafting him in the NBA and for believing in him when others didn’t. Anyone who has observed Murray for a while also knows that he occasionally has thin skin, gets emotional a lot when things are going poorly, and can be a touch too enthusiastic when he is happy. It is not at all unexpected that the first tweet was about being joyful.
