“Went out like a p*ssy,” NBA fans call out Giannis Antetokounmpo for unsportsmanlike foul amid Germany’s upset over Greece in EuroBasket 2022

Giannis Antetokounmpo has made his way back to the NBA headlines and the reason is again Greece’s run in the EuroBasket. This time, it was the Greek Freak led Greece squad which was dominated by Germany and lost the chance to advance to the semi-finals. Unfortunately, they’ll have to wrap it up in the quarter-finals because that’s how knockout phase games work in the European tournament. Giannis Antetokounmpo made the best efforts possible. However, the frustration of watching it all go south, got him doing some dirty business on the court.

Giannis Antetokounmpo led Greece to a 5-0 record in group play and even won the first match-up in the first-round knockout phase against the Czech Republic. Germany had another plan which they executed to perfection to keep their season alive.Giannis Antetokounmpo and the rest of the Greece team put up a good show in the first half. They led 61-57 during halftime. But they messed it all up in the second half as they were unable to slow down the offensive system of Germany led by Dennis Schroder.

Eventually, the lead changed and Greece were never able to cut it down. They ended on the losing side with 96 points against Germany’s 107. The results could have been different had Giannis controlled his frustration and not get ejected with around five minutes remaining. Being the best player on the planet, he had the potential to make a comeback and step up during clutch time. Unfortunately, nothing like that happened as dirty play by him sent him back to the locker room. It left the team without a leader.

Fans react to Giannis Antetokounmpo’s ejection due to an unsportsmanlike foul against Germany

Giannis Antetokounmpo was showing off his great stuff against Germany. He looked a complete monster out there. This was despite the rivals running a system focused to stop him or at least limit his offensive runs. Nothing like that happened as the Greek Freak dropped 31 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. He got in foul trouble and was frustrated watching his great performance not sufficing for his team to win.

By the end of the game, some dirty play, which was probably unintentional, were made by his side. With 4:56 remaining for the fourth quarter to end, Giannis Antetokounmpo was ejected for an unsportsmanlike foul on Germany’s Johannes Thiemann. He delivered a strong elbow right on Thiemann’s face and almost knocked him out while trying to get the rebound away. The physical contact which brought the forward down resulting in an early exit from EuroBasket.
