“Don’t let Vecna Eat him this time” NBA Fans go berserk as Cavs draft Luke Travers a.k.a Billy from Stranger Things

Luke Travers, Billy from Stranger Things

Luke Travers, the Australian-born shooting guard, who was chosen with the 56th selection, features a peculiar moustache and a mullet like Billy Hargrove from the Stranger Things television series. Travers even hails from Perth, Western Australia, where Dacre Montgomery, who plays Billy in the popular Netflix series, is from. He was unknown to American basketball fans prior to the draft. He was selected by the Cavaliers in the second round despite their knowledge that he would not soon join their team. He would instead continue to grow abroad in the Australian NBL and nevertheless, here he is, hiding a huge amount of potential under that mop of hair.

One of the hottest sensations of the summer so far has to be Stranger Things. After releasing the fourth season of this popular sci-fi thriller, the Netflix mega-hit series has been creating headlines around the globe. It turns out that the Cleveland Cavaliers are also keen viewers of the programme as Billy was apparently selected by the Cavaliers in the 2022 NBA Draft and he showed up on Wednesday during a Summer League match in Cleveland.

Luke Travers and his journey to the NBA hardwood.

The Cavaliers picked Luke Travers with the 56th overall pick in the most recent draft. He is an Australian guard/forward who is 6-foot-8 and is from Perth. The 20-year-old chose not to play collegiate basketball in the United States in order to pursue his NBA aspirations in a somewhat different way. Travers, as opposed to entering the 2022 NBA Draft, played professionally in Australia’s National Basketball League (NBL). Travers won the Most Improved Player award in the Australian State Basketball League (SBL), a semi-pro league, in 2019.
In 2020, he succeeded by capturing the Australian National Basketball League (NBL) title.

2018 saw Luke Travers compete for Australia’s Under-16 national team at the FIBA World Cup, where they took home the gold.  For the national team in the final game, Travers had a monster performance with 22 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals, and 2 blocks. Travers’ coaches have referred to him as “versatile” in reference to numbers like his championship game totals. Even Joe Ingles, another renowned Australian basketball player, was referenced by one of his assistant coaches in Australia. Travers won’t have any trouble finding a spot on an NBA team, even if his style of play differs significantly from Ingles’. Which should be welcome news to Cleveland, who will embrace the prospect.

NBA Fans react to seeing Billy from Stranger things on NBA Summer League action.

Due to his inexperience and Cleveland’s roster shortage, the 6-foot-7 Luke Travers, who will be kept abroad for at least another year, tried a little of everything in his debut NBA action. He made six points, five rebounds, three assists, and blocked five shots in barely 24 minutes of play. Travers isn’t a show-off or he doesn’t stand out in individual workouts since he doesn’t have exceptional athleticism or a reputation as a sharpshooter. However, he excels in team settings when he can show off his basketball IQ, adaptability, intangibles, relentless drive, and all-around game. NBA fans around twitter went crazy on this resemblance:

There is no denying that he resembles Billy Hargrove, one of the show Stranger Things’ more notable supporting characters, in terms of appearance. If Travers’ basketball career with the Cavaliers does not pan out for whatever reason, he may choose a career in acting. But this time, he’ll be living out his dream of playing in the NBA, even if it’s only temporary.
