If you might have thought that New York Knicks are inches away from acquiring one of the brightest modern-day scorers, then once again their fate has been tested for the worst. Utah Jazz decided to trade their marquee scorer in the current off-season but not to the MSG, but to Cleveland Cavaliers.

As per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Donovan Mitchell has been traded for a haul that includes three unprotected first-round picks and two pick swaps. While Jazz seemed strong enough to make another run in the playoffs, they have lost both of their pillars in the off-season, first- Rudy Gobert to Minnesota Timberwolves and then 25-year-old forward.

However this time around Utah Jazz might have got their hands on some of the prized talents in the league. By trading Donovan Mitchell on Thursday, Jazz acquired Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen, and 2022 first-round pick Ochai Agbaji. To talk about the latest All-Star heading to Utah, Sexton is coming to the Jazz via a four-year, $72 million sign-and-trade. His deal is fully guaranteed.

It is safe to urge that Donovan Mitchell has become one of the NBA’s transcendent offensive talents, ranking among just a dozen or so players to average at least 25 points and 5 assists per game over the past two seasons as a legitimate three-level threat. While boasting the seventh-highest playoff points per game average (28.33) in league history (fourth among active players).

While Utah Jazz might have given up their hopes on making it to the playoffs and contesting for a championship with the same core, they surely have decided to undergo a re-build as early as possible.

Given that Mitchell and Gobert had an evident falling out in March 2020 when both these players caused the NBA to shut down. On one hand, Mitchell decided to talk about his teammate’s “careless” behavior. On the other hand, Gobert decided to throw some major offensive shades at his teammate citing other modern-day scorers.

In the Jazz’s first-round series against Dallas this postseason, when Mitchell not only struggled with offensive efficiency, but had his ongoing defensive deficiencies laid bare on national television, as he was exploited by Jalen Brunson and Spencer Dinwiddie. So will his time in Cleveland be any different? Remains to be seen as Cavs finally are able to string one of the most-eyed modern-day scorers before the start of 2022-23 season.
