Kevin Durant has once again renewed his trade requests after having met owner Joe Tsai two weeks ago and reportedly told him that he must pick between keeping his 12-time All-Star player or keeping head coach Steve Nash and general manager Sean Marks.

The greatest topic of the offseason gained a new dimension when Durant on June 30 asked to leave Brooklyn, casting a tense shadow over the organisation. No trade agreement is now closer to completion, but a fresh suitor from the Western Conference has surfaced.

The Boston Celtics, Toronto Raptors, and Miami Heat remain among the most serious contenders for Durant, as they have the assets needed to meet the Nets’ asking price in a deal for the two-time NBA Finals MVP. However, no one has yet reached Brooklyn’s lofty price tag of an All-Star, other high-level players, plus draft selections — and recent negotiations with those three front-runners have been non-existent.

According to league insiders, the Celtics offered All-Star Jaylen Brown, guard Derrick White, and a first-round draft selection in July; the Raptors declined to make Rookie of the Year Scottie Barnes available; and Miami has yet to truly engage in a package centred on Bam Adebayo. however, none of those discussions got momentum and Durant has four years and $198 million left on his contract.

In midst of all this a new contender has joined the race to sign Kevin Durant, The Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies, coming off a 56-win season, have made additional inquiries to the Nets about Durant, according to those sources. Memphis has five first-round draft picks available (four unprotected and one protected via Golden State in 2024) to use in a trade, as well as young players like Jarryd Jackson Jr., Desmond Bane, Ziaire Williams, Brandon Clarke, Kennedy Chandler, and David Roddy.

The NBA’s reigning Executive of the Year, Grizzlies executive vice president of basketball operations Zach Kleiman, has done a brilliant job of constructing the team’s foundation around All-NBA player Morant and a solid supporting cast while protecting assets for the present and future. According to insiders, the Grizzlies will not include Jackson or Bane in any prospective offer for Durant, but rather a package structured around their plethora of draft selections.

The news surrounding Kevin Durant’s possible move to Memphis saw mixed reaction with most users mostly supporting the former MVP’s move. Some even went to imagine the possibility of Kevin Durant actually moving to Memphis and then beating Golden state warriors in a reference to previous season’s conference semis where warriors beat to Memphis 4-2 to go to the finals.

There is roughly a month until training camp, and as that period approaches, clubs may begin to soften their stance on some players in order to sign Durant. However, it appears that clubs are still playing hardball with Brooklyn for the time being.
