“More than 230 days and only one NBA star remember her” NBA Fans reacts to Stephen Curry paying tribute to Brittney Griner during ring celebration
Brittney Griner’s army of supporters hails from several parts of the world. The former women’s Team USA Basketball Olympian has been a massive inspiration to females all across the globe and her fight against injustice has been very strong. The world of basketball still believes there is light at the end of the tunnel for the phenom athlete.
During the very first game of the NBA 2022-23 season, the leader of the defending champions Golden State Warriors, Stephen Curry took a moment to remind the entire world about the Phoenix Mercury legend who is currently facing a nine-year sentence for possession of illegal drugs in Russia.
On receiving his fourth championship ring, he spoke to the crowd saying, “We want to continue to use our platform and the opportunity to shout out a very special member of the basketball community, Brittney Griner’s birthday is today, she’s 32 years old.” The 4x NBA champ concluded his speech by wishing Griner well and assuring her that she is in his prayers.
Brittney Griner awaits her release from the Russians
It has been over 230 days since Brittney Griner was taken into confinement at the Russian Penal Colonies. These places are not particularly known for their safe and secure environment but for the amount of turmoil the prisoners are put through on a daily basis. BG has openly stated that she has not been able to live in peace claiming that has lost the will to live, said her wife, Cherelle.
The United States government and President Joe Biden have been making as much effort as they can in order to procure an early release. They have proposed a prisoner swap idea that would release convict Viktor Bout back to Russia and get Brittney Griner in return. The US officials have not received a confirmation from the Russian authorities yet.
Among all the chaos, BG will have a court hearing later this month to potentially get an early release from prison. Coming back to the United States, several individuals have continued supporting Griner with the President even reducing the restrictions against Marijuana users. The NBA world was left in awe of Curry’s kind gesture as well.
