The Eastern Conference Finals are not turning out great for the Boston Celtics. Playing the Miami Heat, the Celtics have lost all three games played so far. As their season is on the brink of its end, the Celtics have been receiving a lot of criticism from the media. Jayson Tatum had a quiet outing in Game 3 as he scored just 14 points. In contrast to his stellar postseason scores, his struggle was quite shocking for many fans and media persons across the league.
Although Tatum had a rather rough night, none of his other teammates could stand up and lead the scoring either. Jaylen Brown had a 12-point game along with Grant Williams and Payton Pritchard. On the other hand, Gabe Vincent took the game away for Miami as he put up a career-high 29 points. Duncan Robinson and Caleb Martin chipped in with 22 and 18 points respectively. After Miami had an authoritative 102-128 win, fans and critics haven’t been kind to the Boston players. NBA analyst Brian Windhorst was one of the many who called out the Celtics for their poor performance.
Brian Windhorst was talking about the Celtic’s Game 3 performance as he said “That Celtics locker room. Ice cold.” He then began his analysis “This was a combination of things. Whenever you see some sort of an event like this where there’s a huge upset like this, it’s not just one thing. The Celtics defense, particularly year after year, when they were the second best offensive team in the playoffs, they were so soft in this game and they’ve been trending this way the whole season.”
He then continued with his criticism for the Boston Celtics’ defense. “They were soft their switched, they were soft on their closeouts,” he said. “They let the Miami players make the first move and it was compounded by the fact that the Heat were feeling great offensively. Their ball was moving. I think they had 12 assists in the first quarter alone. The ball’s all over the place, they can’t keep up. You add in some momentum, you add in the crowd and it snowballed very quickly as significant of a beat down as I can remember seeing in an NBA game of this caliber.”
How have the Boston Celtics played in the Playoffs so far?
The Boston Celtics have been one of the more competitive sides in the NBA the past few years. The Celtics looked in good touch all season as they had a 57-25 record during the 2022-23 NBA regular season. Moreover, they walked into the 2023 NBA Playoffs as the second seed in the Eastern Conference. Boston had a great start to their postseason campaign as they defeated the Atlanta Hawks in six games.
The Eastern Conference Semi-Finals was a tough tussle where the Celtics came on top yet again. Boston won the rigorous seven-game series on the back of a phenomenal 51-point performance from Jayson Tatum. Moreover, Tatum alongside Jaylen Brown had led the Celtics to their impressive record do far. However, the Miami Heat have been a tremendously difficult opponent to beat in the Conference Finals.
The Miami Heat are having an amazing playoff run. Jimmy Butler has led his side to the Conference Finals after being the eighth seed. Moreover, the Heat have played in great sync as they have walked over every opposition with ease. They currently lead the Conference Finals series 3-2 with only one win away from the NBA Finals. Butler and the Heat would have another shot at the title after their 2020 Finals loss against the Lakers. However, the Celtics are still not out of the competition yet. Will Boston fight to keep their season alive or will Miami be crowned as the Champions of the East in Game 4 at home.
