“This was a revenge plot against the Knicks” NBA Insider reveals bad intentions behind Donovan Mitchell to Cavaliers trade

The Donovan Mitchell trade seems to have been a way for the Utah Jazz to get payback from the New York Knicks. The trade, according to an NBA Insider, revealed that there were ill feelings toward the Knicks with how they behaved during the trade negotiations for Mitchell.

For the longest time this off-season, It seemed that the New York Knicks would be the team that Donovan Mitchell would land on after requesting a trade from the Nets. But the point guard would see himself being sent to the Cleveland Cavaliers instead, in exchange for Colin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen, Ochai Agbaji, three unprotected first-round picks in 2025, 2027 and 2029, and two pick swaps in 2026 and 2028.

On The Ball podcast host, Ric Bucher stated that, “I was told about a week before the trade went down that the Jazz was so ticked at the Knicks that they might move Mitchell elsewhere for a lesser deal. It appears the Jazz did hold a grudge. The Knicks’ last offer, I was told, was RJ Barrett, the Knicks’ unprotected first-round pick in 24′ and 26′, the right to swap first-round picks in 25′ and 27′, Milwaukee’s first-round pick in 25′, a little bit of protection on it, and two second-round picks,”

When talking who was the mastermind of the whole strategy to leave the Knicks empty-handed, Bucher named CEO Danny Ainge as the brains behind the operation. “Now, I’ve been told by several people in the league that the Jazz’s new team president, former Celtics team president Danny Ainge, took exception to the Knicks posturing for a year as if Mitchell was there’s for the taking. He was upset.”

While Cleveland may not have been the destination that Mitchell was expected to go to but it does seem like the star is happy where he ended up and the Cavs are now a heavy contender in the Eastern Conference with three all-stars and a young emerging star in Evan Mobley. The Mitchell-led Cavs will be a team to look out for this season.
