The Golden State Warriors recently parted ways with Jordan Poole. As they exchanged him in a package to acquire Chris Paul from the Washington Wizards. But the Dub Nation isn’t really on board with this exchange and is full of doubt. But the team, core players, and front office believe Chris Paul to be the piece they were missing last year.
Chris Paul has already received a lot of love from his teammates. But still, there’s no solid clarification for his role. The former rival can either help the team and even get a ring for himself or just be another veteran addition that will help them be better. Brian Windhorst, though, recently revealed the reason behind the trade, which raised some eyebrows around the league.
When Brian Windhorst was asked about CP3 extending the championship window of the Stephen Curry-led Golden State Warriors. He unexpectedly didn’t have a solid answer for it.
The Insider went on to say, “I am not sure that he does. Obviously, the Warriors have instantaneous and enormous respect for Chris Paul… The issue is the way Chris Paul plays isn’t the way the Warriors play. That doesn’t mean he can’t come in and find ways to get guys going… Warriors have never had a secondary lead guard who can go to work when Steph’s off the court.”
Further, Brian Windhorst went on to send out a very honest take on the details behind the trade. He said, “The honest thing is this deal was made largely as a salary dump. And, if it’s gonna extend the window of Warrior’s championship run. It’s so they can afford to pay Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson on an eventual new contract by getting rid of the money they were going to pay Jordan Poole.”
Even Brian Windhorst isn’t all in with the CP3 trade and wants to watch it grow before making an assumption. Also, the salary dump really makes good sense, as the Dubs had to hand out bags to their core and keep the chemistry alive. Also, Paul can be very helpful not only on the court but also in the locker room, mentoring the next-generation talent the team has.
Steve Kerr on why the Warriors needed Chris Paul
Steve Kerr has yet to decide on the starting lineup for the Warriors, and he’s in no hurry to do so. In a recent interview, the HC revealed how CP will fit around Stephen Curry and others.
That’s not all, he further revealed, “Our team last year needed another way to attack and we became a little too one dimensional with Steph [Curry] in high ball screens. We needed another playmaker to give us a different look and Chris is, as we know, one of the all-time great pick-and-roll players and he’ll know how to control the tempo. It’s hugely important—especially in playoff games—to have guys like that.”
In Chris Paul, they have surely got a new playmaker who can clown the rivals anytime he wants to. Also, he isn’t just limited there; he can also be the primary scorer on the floor and run the game while getting things done. He and Stephen Curry can also become one of the best backcourts in history, and let’s not forget about Klay Thompson. But the road won’t be that easy, as the Dubs will be playing small ball, and the team also needs some time to gel.
