“Something happened along the way” NBA Insider speculates “broken promises” triggered Kevin Durant to quit on the Nets
Kevin Durant
With Kevin Durant rescinding his demand for a trade after fifty-five days from the initial day of the request. In a statement made by the Nets General Manager Sean Marks, it was reported that KD sat down with the owner Joe Tsai, GM Marks and Head Coach Steve Nash about KD’s demands. Trusted NBA insider Chris Haynes delves into what the reasons were that led up to KD’s demand for a trade.
Chris Haynes stated, “I believe KD felt like a promise was broken. Somewhere along the line, I think KD felt like a promise was broken. He was the first one that committed to the team long-term, he did the 4-year extension. Somewhere along the way, something happened where he felt like a promise was broken. That’s where the lack of trust began to sink in. I don’t know if that pertains to Kyrie as a promise being broken, I don’t know if that pertains to James Harden. Somewhere along the way, trust was broken.”
While there can be nothing said for certain about what led KD to demand a trade but what Haynes says does provide scenarios that could be true. And with the Nets trading James Harden last season and also putting Kyrie on the trading block instead of offering an extension also may have brought mistrust to Kevin Durant, with Durant showing fate in the Big 3 of the three of them. While KD’s other contingent of firing Head Coach Steve Nash and General Manager Sean Marks, the most probable reason would be that the former champion doubts their competency and does not feel like the two fit the team, a reason why Harden also wanted to get out from Brooklyn.
KD Moving Forward With The Nets
While last season with Kyrie rarely showing up to games, KD playing only 55 games and Harden being traded away. The Nets still reached the first round of the playoffs. With the inclusion of Ben Simmons; the trio of Durant-Kyrie-Simmons could be major contenders in the league this season, that is assuming all stay healthy and no internal conflicts arise.
While Kyrie Irving’s status as a Net hangs unsure, With or Without Kyrie it is a win-win situation for the Nets. While it is apparent Durant would want Kyrie to stay with the nets and a healthy and involved Kyrie Irving will be helpful to the team. If Brooklyn management were to trade Irving, they could get a lot of assets in exchange for a point guard of Kyrie’s calibre which could massively improve the Nets’ roster.
