Patrick Beverley has joined the Los Angeles Lakers, in exchange for Talen Horton-Tucker and Standley Johnson, the defensive-minded guard was transferred to the City of Angels. ESPN’s Bobby Marks feels Beverley will benefit the Lakers. The Lakers haven’t been very strong defensively, which is something Beverley needs work on. He’s had a significant influence on every club he’s played for, and Lakers fans want him to do the same next season.
Marks sees the 6-foot-1 guard as a disrupter who has a great influence on his teammates. “Patrick Beverley is a disrupter in a good way, he impacts your locker room, he breeds life into an organization,” the NBA insider said. “He will impact this roster in a good way.” Beverley hasn’t played for the Utah Jazz since being acquired in a trade on July 6, 2022. However, he will almost probably play a significant part for the Lakers.

Beverley and his new Los Angeles colleague Russell Westbrook do not get along, prompting some to assume that the Lakers are more desperate than ever to get rid of Westbrook. It all started in the 2013 NBA playoffs, when Patrick Beverley was a member of the Houston Rockets and Westbrook was a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder’s finest squad. Bobby Marks feels that both players must set aside their personal sentiments in order to achieve what is best for the team. “The Russell Westbrook dynamic is going to be fascinating to watch her as far as how those two are going to get along,” Marks said. “We’ve been saying all along how this Lakers can succeed is if they can get complete buy-in… Buy-in is basically putting your personal feelings aside, whether it be Westbrook or Patrick Beverley.”
This is undoubtedly easier said than done. Both Beverley and Westbrook are fierce competitors, so it will be intriguing to watch how they blend with the Lakers.
