“They did not want to embarass him” NBA Insider voices against leniency given towards Draymond Green for ASSAULTING his teammate
Draymond Green is a core piece of the Golden State Warriors culture and he has offered help to their dynasty in many ways that go unseen by fans and the rest of the league. But after what conspired last week, things may not be the same in the locker room anymore.
NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski simply put things into perspective considering how important the player was to Warriors title run last season. “I’m told that the Warriors put significant weight on the fact that opening night is also ring night and the hanging of the Warriors’ 2022 championship banner.”
“They simply weren’t going to measure that as a one-out-of-82-game suspension. That if this incident had landed in the middle of the regular season, there’d probably be a suspension.” His take on this matter could potentially be true. The Warriors have almost tried completely forgetting about the issue as well.
Draymond Green’s future gets questioned after altercation
Draymond Green has been in deep waters ever since the incident took place and the video of him punching Jordan Poole got leaked. Since then, the veteran champion took accountability for his actions and apologised to the victim and the entire team. Head Coach Steve Kerr believes that the team will have “rebuild” their culture.
Woj further commented saying,“If the Warriors weren’t defending champions and were just playing an ordinary opening night, there might very well be a suspension.” Draymond Green has been fined for the altercation but announced, the Warriors show no interest in suspending him.
“But simply, Golden State did not want to punish Draymond Green in a way that he would miss opening night, where he’d get his fourth ring with the Warriors and see his fourth banner during his tenure with Klay Thompson, Steph Curry brought to the rafters,” said Woj
