As the NBA playoffs approach, the Los Angeles Lakers will face off against the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round. While many fans are excited to see LeBron James and Anthony Davis take the court, one anonymous coach is picking the Grizzlies to come out on top.

According to a report from The Athletic, the coach believes that Memphis has too much firepower for the Lakers to handle. Specifically, the coach is concerned about the Lakers’ ability to guard Ja Morant, the Grizzlies’ dynamic young point guard.

“I don’t know if there’s anyone on that Lakers team that can guard him,” the coach said of Morant. “He’s unguardable. And this is their time. This is what they’ve been waiting for all year long, the Grizzlies.”

While the coach does acknowledge that the Lakers may be able to win one game thanks to the play of Anthony Davis, he ultimately believes that Memphis will win the series in five games.

James, the star of the Lakers, has also weighed in on the matchup, acknowledging that the Grizzlies are a talented team that will pose a challenge for Los Angeles.

“Obviously, I haven’t thought about Memphis one minute,” James deadpanned when asked about his early thoughts on the matchup. However, he went on to list several rotation players on the Grizzlies’ roster, showing that he has, in fact, put some thought into the series.

James gave credit to Morant, calling him the “head of the snake” for the Grizzlies, but he also praised other players on the team, including Jaren Jackson Jr., Desmond Bane, Dillon Brooks, Xavier Tillman, Tyus Jones, and Luke Kennard.

Despite the respect he showed for the Grizzlies, James also made it clear that the Lakers are a formidable team in their own right. While they may be the 7th seed in the playoffs, they are far from an ordinary team, with a wealth of talent and experience.

With Davis and James leading the charge, the Lakers will be looking to make a deep playoff run and contend for another championship. However, they will have to get through the Grizzlies first, and that will be no easy feat.
