Karl Malone, the Utah Jazz legend has been named as the judge for the NBA Slam Dunk contest for the 2022-23 season. The 14 x All-Star, is among the most lethal scorers of his time and is one of the top all-time scorers in the league. Despite his legendary career, things are salty between the NBA community, fans, and Malone. The league named him the judge for the All-Star weekend dunk contest. Among the other contests such as the All-Star game and Three-Point Shootout, the dunk contest is seemingly a bit odd this season. All the players in the contest are barely known to the basketball fans. However, this will also help them to make a name for themselves. The contest is filled with young legs as the list was announced on Tuesday. The league announced Houston Rockets wing Kenyon Martin Jr., New Orleans Pelicans wing Trey Murphy III, New York Knicks center Jericho Sims, and Philadelphia 76ers guard Mac McClung will be participating in the dunk contest during the All-Star break.

By choosing the 2010 Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, the league has made a gesture to represent Utah Jazz at All-Star Saturday night. Moreover, with Lauri Markkanen competing in the Three-Point Shootout, and Walker Kessler, Jordan Clarkson, and Collin Sexton competing in the Skills Challenge, Jazz is well-represented in the NBA All-Star Weekend at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City. The Mailman has been out of the public eye mostly since retiring from the league with 36,928 points.

Previously, he served as the judge of the 2008 Dunk Contest in New Orleans. The Mailman will join Dominque Wilkins, Lisa Leslie, Jamal Crawford, and Harold Minor (who won the dunk contest in 1993), the last time the contest was in Utah, as a judge for the event.
