The 2022–23 Kia NBA All-Defensive Teams have been revealed by the NBA. Jaren Jackson Jr., a forward/center for the Memphis Grizzlies, was named to the First Team for the second year in a row, and wing Dillon Brooks was named to the Second Team for the first time in his career.
The 2022–23 Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year award was likewise given to Jackson Jr., making him the second-youngest recipient in NBA history. The 23-year-old tied for second place in the league in total blocks (189), and he topped the league in blocks per game (3.0) and block percentage (9.6) for the second straight season. He garnered 96 votes for the First Team and a league-high 195 points.
The best performance among perimeter players this season was Brooks, 27, who limited opponents’ shooting percentages to 3% lower levels than other defenders. In the NBA, among players that averaged at least 30 minutes per game, he had a 108.5 defensive rating, which placed him sixth overall. With four First Team votes, Brooks received 54 points.
Other players named to the First Team include Milwaukee Bucks guard Jrue Holiday, Milwaukee Bucks center Brook Lopez, Cleveland Cavaliers forward Evan Mobley, and Chicago Bulls guard Alex Caruso. Second Team honorees include Boston Celtics guard Derrick White, Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green, Toronto Raptors forward O.G. Anunoby, and Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo.

NBA Twitter Trolls Dillon Brooks’ All-Defensive Team Selection
Despite the positive news for Jackson Jr. and Brooks, NBA Twitter had a different reaction to Brooks’ Second Team selection. Many users criticized the pick and called it a “consolation prize” or a “joke.”
One user wrote,“Dillon Brooks really got 2nd team all defense as a consolation prize for publicly embarrassing himself” Another tweeted,
Some users pointed to the statistics of other players who were not named to the All-Defensive Teams, such as Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis and Minnesota Timberwolves Forward Jaden McDaniels. Others questioned the integrity of the voting process and suggested that it was influenced by media narratives and personal biases.
