Juancho Hernangomez had a starring role in the movie “Hustle,” and is indeed has increased his popularity charts as well. The latest to justify this claim is his signing with 2019 champions Toronto Raptors. After playing the fictional character Bo Cruz in the recent Adam Sandler movie on Netflix, Hernangomez has grown in star power. While he might not be a huge NBA Star creating a buzz upon joining any team, his stardom at the current date has certainly earned him some attention.
A 26-year-old NBA star had already played in 5 different franchises before. Now, the former Utah Jazz forward is taking his talents north as he joins the Toronto Raptors. NBA fans are having fun with it. They took to Twitter to voice their feelings and jokes about Hernangomez joining the Raptors, and with so much recognition of the move, Hernangomez will need to establish himself in Toronto.
Former NBA Champions Toronto Raptors are adding pieces around their big guns
The Raptors, NBA champions in 2019, are a team halfway between reconstruction-phase. They have handed the command to Nick Nurse, who delivered the title in his very first season at the north. With an established player in Fred VanVleet, former MIP (most improved player of the year) in Pascal Siakam, and Rookie of the Year Scottie Barnes at his disposal, Nurse is more than capable of causing some troubles to contender teams in the East.
Nurse also earned the Coach of the season award, as he helped the team to overcome the spate of departures the Raptors have suffered since winning the title (Kawhi Leonard, Danny Green…). Now with help of talented young star Scottie Barnes, new addition and fresh-off championship Otto Porter Jr. and budding talent OG Anunoby, the Raptors have the depth to make a deep playoff run.
As for the recent addition Hernangomez, he would probably be a role player in Nurse’s plans. During his time with the Utah Jazz, the Spanish star played one of the most significant roles of his career, but his career was trending downward beforehand.
He played for Minnesota Timberwolves, the Boston Celtics, the San Antonio Spurs, and the Utah Jazz; four teams in two calendar years; five if we count his new destination. If he continues to build off last season, Hernangomez could conclude his career with a movie-style ending.
