Luka Doncic on Christian Wood trade to Dallas Mavericks

Dallas Mavericks have clearly showed their intent ahead of the start of 2022-23 season as they have bolstered their roaster by acquiring Christian Wood from the Houston Rockets to provide size support to Luka Doncic. On the same note, NBA Fans and pundits react positively to the move.

Luka Doncic and his Mavs made a deep run in the 2022 postseasons as they went on to beat all odds and reached the conference finals for the first time since 2011. A team full of talented stars fell short against Golden State Warriors in the Conference finals as their fight ended up in 5 games. But the team received huge praises, especially Luka Doncic who was dominant though-out the playoffs. Many considered the team as just one piece away from winning it all, and the Dallas Mavericks front office addressed that position quickly enough. They traded 4 of their players and also a 2022 draft pick to Houston Rockets for young and gifted star Christian Wood.

Houston Rockets undergoing rebuilding has some more chips to play with and Dallas got a trusted man at the center to support Doncic and co. The talented youngster could fit perfectly in the Dallas system and both parties will be benefited from the trade. The NBA world also positively reacts to the deal.

Dallas Mavericks had some tough and formally consistent opponents in their playoff run. They dispatched Utah Jazz in 6 games and conference top seed Phoenix Suns in 7 games. Both the match-ups were tough enough to prove Mavs’ mantle for the postseason. But the 3-time NBA Champion team Golden State Warriors was too hot to handle for Luka Doncic and Co. as they crashed out of the NBA conference finals in just 5 games.

The team was sorting for the adjustments they needed to make as considering many suggestions from the pundits, media, and internal assessments; they targeted the young and talented center. It is believed that the Rockets on the other hand wanted to open up playing time for 2021 first-rounder Alperen Sengun and likely the No. 3 overall pick, so the prospect of trade for their Christian Wood was intriguing.

6’11” Wood can play in the Power forward position and also at the center position. He averaged 19.1 points and 9.9 rebounds during his two seasons with the Rockets and hit his prime at age of 26. In the trade, as ESPN Reports, Dallas will send Boban Marjanovic, Marquise Chriss, Sterling Brown, and Trey Burke to Houston with the 26th overall pick of the 2022 draft.

It could be a great deal as all the above-mentioned players were on expiring contracts with 2022 Conference finalists Dallas Mavericks and they got a productive big man, creating roster flexibility. Luka Doncic and Christian Wood would be ecstatic with the trade as both are very young, and if the partnership clicks, it could be a long fruitful journey for them.
