“Joel Embiid got what he deserved”: NBA Twitter reacts to “Classless Raptors Supporters” after found celebrating Joel Embiid’s injury in viral video

Joel Embiid, The Philadelphia76’ers superstar suffered an orbital fracture and a mild concussion during a heavy collision with Pascal Siakim late into Game 6 vs. Raptors. A brutal blow suffered by Joel Embiid, the aftermath of which may be a blow to the Sixers’ championship hopes this season. Given that in the postseason, emotions are bound to run high but they should not cross the boundaries of basic human decency, which is exactly what happened in Toronto on Friday as fans and apparently commentators as well joined in to celebrate as Embiid was elbowed during the game.

Joel Embiid and James Harden took center stage for the Philadelphia 76ers as they took apart the Toronto Raptors 132-97 in their Playoff series game booked their tickets to the Eastern Conference semifinals where they will go head to head with Jimmy Butler’s Miami Heat. The former scored an impressive 33 points and had 10 rebounds while James Harden dropped 22 points and had an impressive tally of 15 assists. “We weren’t going back to Philly for a Game 7”, Harden said after the game.

Raptors making mockery of Joel Embiid’s devastating injury

On Thursday night, had you tuned in on the game you could have heard the TSN color commentator, Jack Armstrong said that Embiid ‘deserved’ to get elbowed in the face by Pascal Siakam on that play. Luckily Embiid walked away totally fine from a what could’ve been a very ugly incident , saying a player ‘deserves’ to be hit in the face just because he celebrated on your court is a cruel – and does not suit a professional broadcaster. Knowing the severity of Embiid’s injuries, Armstrong’s comments are that much uglier. 

This was a horrendous display of Sportsmanship from the Toronto fans , which led to mass outrage on the internet , condemning this behaviour. Siakim apologised to Joel Embiid later so it may as well be water under the bridge , but this ‘Classy Act’ from these ‘Die-Hard Fans’ should never be seen again.
