The 2021-22 NBA Season has been all about big men and how dominantly have they been able to impose their authority since the beginning. Be it Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo or any other big man, it seemed like only the tall and charismatic scorers were to run for this year’s MVP. With the Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers’ stars being alive in the playoffs, the latest news has shattered the NBA World.

So, what is the big sensational news? It is being reported that Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic has edged Joel Embiid for the 2022 MVP once again and is going to win consecutive MVP accolades. To those who are not aware, Embiid was the leading point-scorer in the regular season, and is currently leading his team past the Miami Heat in the semi-final series respectively.

Now to bring everyone on the same page, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Nuggets star Nikola Jokic has been named MVP for the second-straight season. In 74 games for the team from Denver this season, he posted averages of 27.1 points, 13.8 rebounds, and 7.9 assists. After falling just short last season, many felt this was the year for Joel Embiid to land MVP. Once it emerged that Jokic had won again, fans quickly rushed to social media to voice their displeasure. The main consensus was that Embiid was a huge snub.

However, even the case is indeed true, then Joel Embiid is potentially being robbed of the highest individual accolade in the league. His terrific and power-packed 30.6 points per game were a career-high and made him the first center to win the scoring title since Shaquille O’Neal over 20 years ago. It’s also worth noting Shaquille O’Neal won MVP that season.

Moreover, the top seed Miami heat were ruthlessly beating the Philadelphia 76ers before Joel Embiid arrived to the scene. Since his return, Game 3 and 4 have been won by the home side at Wells Fargo Center in comfortable fashion.

As things stand, it is Jokic to edges past Embiid yet again, but how will the latter react? Remains to be seen.
