Nets star Kevin Durant fires back at Kobe Bryant take being used against him
Kevin Durant speaks about Kobe and Pau Gasol
It seems like Kevin Durant is spending his offseason on social media more than anywhere else, from being involved with Draymond Green to lashing out at Stephen A Smith and even replying to random fans on Twitter, Durant is everywhere. The Brooklyn Nets were thrown out of the NBA Playoffs by the Championship contending Boston Celtics, as they clean swept the Nets 4-0 in the series. Life has not been easy for Kevin Durant since leaving the Warriors Dynasty, as his initial season for the Nets was a disaster. One fan recently invoked the late, great Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant in an argument against KD, and KD was having none of it.
Durant tried to form his own super team in Brooklyn but the plan hit a snag last season. The 33-year-old remained a remarkable offensive force but James Harden demanded out, Ben Simmons never played and Kyrie Irving refused a COVID-19 shot. Three years after Kevin Durant left them in free agency, the Warriors are back in the Finals and the Nets couldn’t win a playoff game, which led to multiple fans imploring that KD needed the Warriors more than the Warriors needed KD, is his time at the Nets hurting his legacy ?

“So what’s my mindset and approach ?” – Kevin Durant snaps back at fan comparing his mentality with Kobe Bryant
In his 20-years long career, Bryant played against many great players. Michael Jordan, Allen Iverson, LeBron James, Stephen Curry and the list goes on. But the one player who gave the Black Mamba a hard time on the defensive end was Kevin Durant. Back in 2018, in an interview on “The Corp With A-Rod and Big Cat” Kobe revealed how the current Brooklyn star gave Bryant a hard time defensively.
However, according to the fan, Kevin Durant has simply operated with a mindset geared towards individual excellence. While he does say Durant has reached levels as an individual higher than most anybody in NBA history, he still hasn’t displayed the qualities such as a true champion like Kobe Bryant.
Kevin Durant has been quite a presence on social media and he was bound to lash back. He stated that Bryant’s purpose during that time between 2006 and 2009 rapidly changed from just chasing individual numbers to hunting for championships as soon as Pau Gasol came into the picture. Durant’s Thunder ran up against Bryant and the Lakers during the first round of the 2010 NBA playoffs. The Lakers won in six games en route to back-to-back NBA titles, the last of Kobe’s five titles.
Everybody is familiar with Kobe’s insane skillset, which coupled with his thunderous mindset made him one of the greatest ever to grace the NBA. Agreed, Kobe struggled fighting for the NBA Title, as his legendary partnership with Shaquille O’Neal broke. However, he made it to the top again in 2009, with the addition of a big man like Pau Gasol which facilitated Kobe to perform better and chase a championship, eventually winning it back-to-back in2009-10. Kevin Durant thinks that is the case, and he may be right, although that does not tarnish the legacy of ‘Black Mamba’.
KD is one of the best active players in action and he will use this long off-season for nothing but to improve and bounce back and prove his haters wrong. The Nets this offseason will become one of the highest potential teams with great young faces around as many of his stars will be returning and resigning soon. It has though been a second early exit for the franchise but still, the hopes are on and so is the belief of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving bringing home a championship.
