NFL sweeps off TV Ratings for 2022 season: Is NBA a dying sport in US?

NBA vs NFL has been an ever-so-long debate held all across the States, to determine which has gain more credibility in modern-day sports. While basketball is one of the top 3 sports in the world, National Football League is the sport and league made and built in America. On the same note, a latest stat signify how the NBA is losing its credibility even when it lasts almost 6 months longer. 

Fans would be aware that any particular NFL season lasts up to 16 weeks of footballing action, while an NBA season stretches on for 9 months. But it seems like the audience in United States has started taking the latter league superficial way. With Stephen Curry’s Golden State Warriors locking horns against the mighty Boston Celtics, the NBA failed to make it in the Top 25 highest watched broadcasts of 2022. Whereas the Super Bowl LVI showdown was the top most with over 110 million views. 

Has NBA lost its credibility in and around US? 

There are no doubts that the Super Bowl LVI showdown between the Rams and Bengals was an exciting affair. Moreover, the required star-power was added by artists like Eminem, Snoop Dogg who got fans up to their feet during the halftime performance. Not only that, the Top 7 most watched telecasts belong to NFL. So, how has NBA experienced such a diminishing fall in its viewership in the State? 

Let us look at more statical data, there is a vast difference in available roster spots allotted to football players, compared to basketball players. Because of the significant variances in available roster spots, the NFL provides more opportunities for players to make it to the professional level. As a result of which more players are competing at the high school and collegiate levels, which adds to the competitive landscape of football. With more African-American stars making it big, the aspect of football is now broadened to the ‘Black Community’. 

Furthermore, analysts like Skip Bayless, Shannon Sharpe have always stressed upon how NBA players have started taking their contracts lightly. On the other hand, marquee stars in the NFL work day-in-day-out to earn a big paycheck, which signifies their importance for the season. More importantly there is a difference of almost $2 Million in NBA and NFL average salary slips.  

In easier words, back in 2021, Fox Business stated the average valuation of an NFL franchise is 2.86 billion. If you multiply that by 32 X 2.86. You get $91,520,000,000 Billion. To own, such an organization would cost an additional premium. It is likely the NFL is worth between $100 – 200 billion to this date.
