“LeBron walked so that others could run” Nick Wright urges how Stephen Curry is replicating LeBron James’ narrative for Finals MVP
LeBron James and Stephen Curry
Sports media personality Nick Wright cited Lakers star LeBron James as the perfect leader and example for NBA Stars who entered the league after him. The former also emphasised upon Stephen Curry following LBJ’s path to NBA Finals MVP claim. Being the best player in the current Final series, Wright feels unanimously the highest individual accolade should be awarded to the 3-Point King.
Stephen Curry has been on exceptional form in the 2022 postseason. Warriors’ star guard did all to take the team to the finals. In the Finale showdown too, he is making miraculous plays keeping the Warriors in the title contention. He is by far the best player in the series and is taunted as the favorite to win his 1st NBA Finals MVP Trophy. Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright made an interesting reference to LeBron James while highlighting Stephen Curry and even Brooklyn Nets’ star Kevin Durant’s careers.
LeBron has been one of the most influential athletes in the sports world – both on and off the field. He has been an idol for many youngsters even in other sports. Given his achievements and hard work over his incredible career, NBA Megastar has impacted the game on several fronts. An all-rounder star has been the leader in many statistical categories, and so is looked upon as a reference to reach up to.
Nick Wright considers LeBron James as an example for many stars like Stephen Curry
Though Golden State Warriors are making steady progress in NBA Finals, Stephen Curry has been an unstoppable force in the run. Just like the 2015 NBA Finals series, where LeBron James solely troubled the Warriors and made them fight hard for the title. James was the top scorer and led many other stats, but losing the title cost him the NBA title and Iguodala won the coveted trophy. Shedding further light on this, Nick Wright tackled the issue of Steph Curry’s Finals MVP snub on First Things First.
He started his argument with a comparison to 4-time NBA Champion and Finals MVP LeBron James. Putting light on James’ role in paving the way for others, Nick said, “It’s the only fair result. Listen, as often is the case with modern NBA history, LeBron walked so others could run. LeBron came within a vote of being the first-ever unanimous MVP, then Steph could be. LeBron left a team that was of championship caliber to go try do it elsewhere, so now Kevin Durant can do the same thing.”
James’ had marvelous stat lines in the 2015 Finals but lost the MVP Trophy to Andre Iguodala 7-4 in voting. 37-years old addressed the poor decision and compared Stephen Curry’s performances to LeBron James’.
Wright said, “And now, if Steph Curry, who’s been averaging 34 a game, whose been the best player in the series – would anybody argue anyone other than Steph Curry? Now we’re not to the end yet. But if this things goes seven, and Steph continues to average 30+ points and no Celtic really seizes control, then of course Steph should win it.”
After supporting former regular-season MVPs, Analyst Nick pointed out that there are no certain rules regarding the winner of the Finals MVP trophy.
Curry won 3 NBA Titles and LeBron James won 4 titles. But James appeared as the best player in the series-winning 4 Finals MVP win to accompany each title win. A similar situation presents itself in this year’s Finals. With Curry destroying opponents practically in every game, the 34-year guard looks like the best player among both teams.
Now with a relatively sluggish performance in Game 5, will Stephen still remains Finals MVP is yet to be seen, but he defiantly is the best player of the series.
