Eliot Shorr-Parks thinks that the 2023 NBA championship by the Denver Nuggets and Nikola Jokic was meaningless and perhaps the easiest way to a championship. After defeating the Miami Heat in a seven-game series, Jokic and the Nuggets claimed their maiden championship. However, according to ESP, the narrative this championship for Joker would create would be false and provides more accolades to Jokic than he deserves.
Coming from Shorr-Parks, such takes from him are understandable, because he himself is from Philadelphia. In a conversation with Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie on Tuesday’s 94WIP Morning Show, Shorr-Parks said that Jokic was handed the easiest oath to the championship compared to any player in the history of the NBA. “He got handed easiest path to a title we might ever see again in the NBA and maybe ever when you consider the play-in tournament,” he said.
Interestingly, even when Jokic was playing his first NBA Finals of his career and before winning it all, ESP had tweeted that Joel Embiid was a better player than the Joker. Moreover, later, he said that he hope Joel uses Jokic’s championship as a motivation to make himself better. Despite the fact that Eliot is trying to undermine Jokic’s NBA title and finals MVP, it is also interesting that Embiid was declared the 2023 NBA regular season MVP, ahead of the Joker.
Is Nikola Jokic and Denver Nuggets’ NBA championship really overrated?
During the podcast, ESP opined that the narrative that is going to circulate after the Nuggets’ championship run, would not be the correct way to represent the statistics as well as the talent on the floor. “But I don’t think this means, ‘The Nuggets are way better, they’re winners and the Sixers are losers and Jokic is way better than Embiid.’ I think that’s an overreaction to them getting to play bad teams the entire path to their title,” said ESP.
To credit Shorr-Parks, the Philadelphia 76ers did finish the regular season with a better record than Denver, and that too in a tougher Eastern Conference. In their championship run, they have defeated eight-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves, in the Western Conference semi-finals, they defeated the Phoenix Suns, which was without Chris Paul.
They also defeated Los Angeles Lakers in the Conference Finals to finally beat the Miami Heat (8th seeded in Eastern Conference) in the NBA Finals for their maiden title. However, it cannot be denied that the Joker put an impressive postseason performance for the Nuggets, with historical numbers.
