Nikola Jokic‘s brilliance in Game 5 of the Finals helped the Denver Nuggets win their first NBA championship in franchise history. Despite the historic victory, the two-time MVP was casual in his courtside interview. Minutes after winning the prestigious championship, Jokic was composed and first shook the hands of the Miami Heat players before meeting with his family.
When asked about how it felt to finally be crowned as the NBA champion, Jokic said, “It’s good, it’s good, the job is done, we can go home now.” The 28-year-old scored 28 points and grabbed 16 boards to lead the way from the front in a 94-89 win. Throughout his courtside interview, Jokic did not seem to express any sense of excitement about being a first-time champion. He heaped some high praise on the Miami Heat and admitted that they made Game 5 extremely difficult to play in.
The Miami Heat showed a lot of resiliency from the start, but in the end, the Nuggets took the game away from them courtesy of some great clutch time plays from all of their players. Despite shooting only 17.9% from three-point range, the Nuggets were able to get the job done as they kept making buckets in regular intervals to lift the Larry O’Brien trophy in front of their fans at home.
