The Denver Nuggets headed into Game 5 of the 2023 NBA Finals with a comprehensive 3-1 lead. Playing at home, they were ready to face the fire from the Miami Heat. After all, Miami had been exceptional in their postseason run and wasn’t willing to go down easily. As the Heat looked to force Game 6, both teams played with high intensity and passion. Nikola Jokic was caught under the rim multiple times while securing rebounds, which led him to get into tussles.

The Nuggets Center got caught up with two Miami players during the course of the game. While they were trying to take the ball into possession, Nikola Jokic was rather aggressive with his defense. In the process, he ended up almost shoving his elbow into Bam Adebayo and Kyle Lowry. Despite his aggressive and almost flagrant actions, the referees made no calls against the two-time league MVP.

Despite his aggressive gameplay in Game 5, Nikola Jokic once again led the Denver Nuggets in an impressive win. With 28 points and 16 rebounds, he ensured that Denver won Game 5 to be crowned champions. Moreover, to make it even more special, this was also the Denver Nuggets’ first franchise title in the history of the organization. The score at the end of regulation was 89-94.

Although Nikola Jokic has been praised and liked by many in recent times, fans were not all happy with his actions in Game 5. Moreover, many were disappointed with the referees failing to call a foul on the Center. Subsequently, fans took to Twitter to troll the Finals MVP. Here are a few reactions.

There’s no doubt that fans and critics have been unhappy with the officiating more than anything else this season. This wasn’t the first time that viewers of the game have called out officials and accused them of being biased. On the other hand, many also believe that Nikola Jokic was playing in response to an aggressive steal attempt by both Bam Adebayo and Kyle Lowry.

Regardless, there’s no argument that Jokic has been the backbone of the Nuggets’ success, and his passion on the court has led them to their first NBA title. On the other hand, this is the second time in four years that Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat have lost the NBA Finals.
