The season is officially underway. There is no better way to open it than a matchup featuring the reigning NBA Champions, the Denver Nuggets. They played their rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers, in the opening matchup. The Nuggets raised their first-ever championship banner and beat the Lakers in their season opener. Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic scored another triple-double to help attain victory.

The Denver Nuggets were motivated to win the game after receiving their first-ever championship ring. They carried that motivation into the game as they started the game strong with a 12-2 run. At one point, they were leading by 18 points, but the Lakers brought it close but couldn’t manage to close it out as Anthony Davis failed to score a single point in the second half.  The Nuggets beat the Lakers 119-107.

All five starters for the Nuggets had double-digit points. Jokic scored 29 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists. Jamal Murray scored 21 points, Kentavious Caldwell Pope scored 20 points, Aaron Gordon scored 15, and Michael Porter Jr. scored 12, which helped the Nuggets get over the Lakers. LeBron James led the Lakers in limited minutes, scoring 21 points in 29 minutes. The Lakers haven’t won a season opener since the 2016-17 season.

Anthony Davis fails to score a single point in the second half of Lakers’ defeat

With LeBron James being 38 years old, carrying the Lakers in times of need heavily falls on their superstar, Anthony Davis, to help them win games. However, he disappeared when the team needed him the most during the game against the Denver Nuggets in their season opener.

Davis had a stellar first half, scoring 17 points, which allowed the Lakers to contend against the Nuggets in the first half. In the second half, he couldn’t make a basket, going 0-6 from the field and scoring zero points, which ultimately led to the Nuggets defeating the Lakers 119-107. LeBron will require more support from Davis this season, as his minutes will be monitored, and the load on Davis to carry the team in the regular season will increase.
