“I will not….” OKC Mayor draws funniest ‘overreaction’ on Chet Holmgren’s Summer League debut prior to 2022-23 NBA season
Oklahoma's Mayor cant wait to see Chet Holmgren in action in the NBA
Overhyping things can lead to disaster more often than not, look at the Nets now for example. Chet Holmgren’s arrival is exactly why everybody has their breath held tight in the city of Oklahoma as they wait for their thunderous wonderkid to hit the NBA. They know the amount of potential he has previously shown also on display in the NBA Summer League. The 7’1 wonderkid would not like to get overhyped as it would put a lot more pressure on the rookie, but his talent is so crystal clear that even the Mayor of Oklahoma can’t wait to see him in the NBA
The 2022 NBA Draft came with expectations and seemed to break them all, with talent bubbling from the young guns in the draft. Paolo Banchero took the No. 1 overall pick after the Orlando Magic selected him to kick off the draft, while Chet Holmgren and Jabari Smith closed out the top 3. Promised to the Top 3 of the Draft 2022, Chet Holmgren did not take the fact of being selected behind Paolo Banchero badly. On the contrary, he was rather delighted with this news.
“I will not overeact to a Summer League Game” – The Mayor of Oklahoma cant stopr gushing over Chet Holmgren’s arrival
Being the 2nd overall pick, there are huge expectations out of Chet Holmgren. Many talent evaluators called him the most talented star in this years pool. He is 7ft tall and is among the potential big men of the league. While the video reflects his attacking skill, he is primarily known for his defense. Two years ago, Holmgren attended Under Amour’s camp, spotlighting some of the best young talent, which was when his popularity exploded.
The Chet Holmgren’s talented career is already flying at light speed, so why not jump aboard? Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt is one who could not withstand his excitement seeing the, amount of raw basketball IQ this young gun has. Watching Holmgren ball out Tuesday night in Salt Lake City seemed to be an instant antidote for a two-year basketball hangover in OKC. Landing a player with Holmgren’s potential is what all of those losses were for.
To be fair to Mayor Holt, the excitement is palpable. He’s probably not the only one feeling the same after watching Chet Holmgren play for the Thunder. After all, the youngster made Summer League History as the first player with at least five blocks and four triples in a game ever. Holmgren had 23 points, seven rebounds, four assists and six blocks in the contest. He also went 4-of-6 from beyond the arc as he lead the Thunder to a 98-77 win.
Holmgren has the ability to become a special player, especially if he fills out his frame with more muscle in the future. The 7’1 Holmgren finds himself in a great landing spot with the OKC Thunder, who continue to construct an impressive roster of talent. The 20 year old has been criticized for his lean frame, however, he makes up for it by his dominant plays inside then paint.
It’s just one Summer League game, but we can’t blame Holt or anyone in OKC for that matter if they are ready to jump the Chet hype train. He is largely considered as one of, if not he best prospect in the 2022 class, and I’m sure the Mayor is not the last one to gush over the Golden Pick of the 2022 NBA Draft.
