Ja Morant's shoes will not be in Michael Wilbon's house as the 23-year old was caught using a gun yet again

ESPN analyst Michael Wilbon has made a bold statement on his feeling toward Ja Morant after the Memphis Grizzlies star was caught brandishing a gun yet again. The 23-year-old was spotted on his friend’s Instagram Live holding a weapon in the car’s passenger seat. This has happened after a long ordeal during the regular season where he had pulled out a gun in a strip club and apologized for it on national television too.
Wilbon appeared on ESPN’s NBA countdown and said – “Is he gonna do the work required of himself to get out of this? What’s going to happen now? Nike gonna pull that shoe? Is Powerade gonna pull that drink?” Morant has a $193 million deal with Nike, jeopardized yet again by his actions. Nike was swift to part ways with Kyrie Irving after his incident this season, so Morant would be wary that his deal is on the line.
“I know in my house, I told [my son] you can’t have the shoe… Our money as a family is not going toward that,” added Wilbon. Morant is a fan favorite, especially amongst the younger NBA fans. However, his irresponsible actions have made Wilbon feel the need to keep Morant and what he stands for away from his son. Wilbon also mentioned how surprised he is that a professional like Morant is not letting this lifestyle go, saying – “The engagement level and intellect are unmistakable Yet this whole fake gangster theme I thought we were past as a culture… I guess he’s not past it.”
Ja Morant has been suspended from all Memphis Grizzlies activities
Morant is one of the league’s brightest young stars, yet he has managed to ruin his reputation this season. Following the video going viral, Morant was swiftly suspended by the Memphis Grizzlies for all their team activities. However, the video is still pending a review from the league which could add on to the length of the suspension.
With Morant becoming a repeat offender, the uncertainty about the length of his suspension will only be bad news for Grizzlies fans. The NBA suspended Morant last time because of ‘conduct detrimental to the league,’ Morant was pardoned to an extent due to being intoxicated. However, this time it appears he was completely sober and could face a heftier suspension.
Morant being caught has also made the media think about the counseling he claimed he received in Florida after the initial incident. The Grizzlies star was also involved in a police investigation during the regular season involving the beating up of a 17-year-old. Ja Morant is undoubtedly one of the most exciting young talents of the NBA, winning ‘Most Improved Player’ just last season. However, his nature off the court seems to be tarnishing his chances at a successful career.
