Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks have had nothing less than a tragedy this season. The Mavericks aren’t going to the playoffs this season despite the team performing tremendously well at one point in time. Luka, according to many, is the reason for both. According to critics, the Slovenian star has swiftly become a player whose flaws have become apparent.

Fox Sports analyst Colin Cowherd came in heavy on the player and did not hold back in his criticism of Doncic. He raised several questions about the Mavericks star’s track record and “predicted” his future. Cowherd said that Doncic was now being prickly, moody, out of shape, and losing commitment to his team. He also added that the way this was going, Doncic would end up like the” moody” Carmelo Anthony.

Colin went in completely and stated that the major problem in the Mavericks has always been Luka and no one else. He highlighted that Luka could never find the perfect partnership or get along with anyone he was paired with. He stated names like Kristaps Porzingis, Jalen Brunson, and now even Kyrie Irving. Colin said, “We’re falling in love with this great hyper, offensive player. Moody, difficult, needs the ball, won’t defend.” He asked, “Is he gonna end up [like] Carmelo Anthony?”

Since being drafted in 2018, Doncic has always been the megastar of the Mavericks. But this year, the team and their star player weren’t on the same page. No, Doncic doesn’t seem to be leaving the Mavericks anytime soon, but the distance between him and the front desk seems to be increasing. A player once lauded as the sole cause of the team’s wins is now being scapegoated for its failures.

A rift can be seen between Doncic and team owner Mark Cuban. Despite his commitment to the Mavericks, Doncic acknowledged the need for change within the team. The Mavericks’ season was disappointing, and Doncic believes, “Something’s got to change, for sure.” Cuban had also acknowledged the need to secure Doncic’s loyalty to the team.

Doncic staying with the Mavericks forever seems like a farfetched prospect, at least to this day. No matter what, the disappointment of this season will continue to haunt the team and their franchise star. But for Doncic, he has to face the world and its wrath. It remains to be seen what changes he brings to his game. This will be an effort on his part to change people’s views of himself. But we need to ask another question, does he feel he’s in the wrong here?
