“Hoping he was just pulling a Paul Pierce” – Pacers fans left in shambles as Tyrese Haliburton limps back to the locker room mid-game

“Hoping he was just pulling a Paul Pierce” – Pacers fans left in shambles as Tyrese Haliburton limps back to the locker room mid-game

Tyrese Haliburton

Tyrese Haliburton is one of the brightest young stars in the league. This season, the Indiana Pacers guard has been on a tear for the franchise. He’s averaging 20.2 points and 4 rebounds a game. To go along with that, he is also averaging a league-leading 10.2 assists per game. In a game against the New York Knicks, Haliburton went down with a scary-looking knee injury, and thus, the fans were understandably worried.

The incident happened in the third quarter of the game when Tyrese was attacking the rim. He drove into the paint and under the pressure of the double team and tried to lay it up over Knicks big man Isaiah Hartenstein. Haliburton went up at an awkward angle and the weak shot attempt was swatted away by Hartenstein. Tyrese though stayed down after the play holding his knee.

Tyrese Haliburton has been making a name for himself this season. It’s a breakout year for him and the young and talented point guard has led the Pacers to a respectable 23-19 record and they have been fighting for a playoff spot. He is a worthy candidate for an all-star nod though the east is stacked with backcourt talent.

Pacer’s fans were very worried when their star man went down and understandably so as they are very thin at the point guard spot and losing one of the best playmakers in the league is a blow to any team. They sure hope that their talisman comes back. Until he does, they will be looking to stay afloat in their bid to stay in the Eastern playoff sports.

This year’s MIP class is very strong. With a field of candidates such as; Lauri Markkanen, who has transformed himself from a bench player last season with the Cavs, to legitimate all-star level play. Jalen Brunson, who has become the main man on the Knicks and just had a 44-point performance in a game against the Bucks and Jrue Holiday’s defense. And Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has hit numerous game-winners and elevated his game to the point where he is putting up MVP-type numbers. Among those, is the compelling case made by Tyrese Haliburton.

For Tyrese, the improvement is clear to see, his numbers are up across the board along with his efficiency. He is the main guy on a team that was expected to be bad in the Eastern Conference. Under Rick Carlisle, Haliburton leads the league in assists and makes the players around him much better as well. Whether he wins it or not is something we’ll have to wait and see. At the moment, the betting favorite for the award is SGA, with Markkanen and Haliburton rounding out the top 3.
