The Orlando Magic have had their best draft selection since Shaquille O’Neal. Their newest superstar Paolo Banchero, is officially an All-Star. The 21-year-old is only the second Magic player since O’Neal to be named both Rookie of the Year as well as an All-Star. This places Banchero in elite company. But what made the selection more special was the way his teammates celebrated.

In a video shared by the Magic’s official social media accounts, all the players are seen sitting in the conference room. The cameras are focused on Banchero. They are watching Inside the NBA on TNT host Ernie Johnson reading out the All-Star reserve selections. As soon as Johnson says Orlando Magic, the whole room erupts. All of his teammates cheered Banchero as some of them showered him with water. This video has become viral. It is the teammates cheering his brightest moments that made it special.

Banchero reciprocates that to his teammates. He hugged and dapped up his teammates. He is also seen hugging and acknowledging the congratulatory words from his head coach Jamahl Mosley. What makes it heartwarming for the fans watching is that the Magic are a young team. And all of them celebrated their best player’s triumph.

But the young Magic are growing together. It is common for young players to have egos about themselves. But they know that someone is better than them. And it was this acknowledgment that brought out cheers from the whole room.

What made Paolo Banchero crack the All-Star list?

Paolo Banchero was the first pick in the 2022 draft. The Orlando Magic selected him based on his elite play, size, and skill level at Duke University. Banchero was named the 2022-23 NBA Rookie of the Year. This year, however, he decided to take his game to the next level. His production has jumped this season. With career highs in points and assists, Banchero carved out a name for himself.

The All-Star selection was also aided by the improvement in the Magic’s season. This season, the Magic are firmly in the playoff spots. Banchero has led a team full of developing young stars this season. So to lead his team to the playoff spots in his second year is monumental.

Banchero is viewed as a star of the future. If he continues his development at this rate, the future might be near.
