“They have ruined the game”: Pat McAfee condemns NBA referees to have excessive control upon deciding the outcome

Pat McAfee and NBA refs

Pat McAfee recently made it to the NBA headlines as he discussed NBA refs and the selective officiating they do in the games to have the outcome under their control on his show. Many fans ride with him on this take of his as they believe that refs do control the game and outplay everyone by deciding who gets a foul and who doesn’t. The officiating in the league has already been very controversial this season with some rules changed and unhappy players and coaches calling the officials out. The most recent case was in Game 2 of the NBA Finals as Draymond Green who should have been ejected stayed in and got the job done just because the refs decided not to blow the whistle and send him back but of course, it can’t be confirmed as maybe the refs had another strong reason to have the former DPOY in. Even Pat McAfee pointed out to such plays while talking about them giving calls selectively as many fouls are called and many are not.

Pat McAfee started his critical take in the best way possible as he brought Tim Donaghy into the conversation. Tim Donaghy was a former NBA referee who spent 15 months in federal prison for gambling and betting on his own games. After his case reports also revealed and stated that more such refs are in the league and the story is still the same. As even the American sports analyst believes it’s all because of how the game is built. Pat McAfee after discussing Tim Donaghy jumped onto a tweet by Roosh Williams where he wrote: “Steve Javie talking about referees using “selective enforcement” basically proves and validates fans who feel intentionally cheated by refs.” (Steve Javie is a former NBA ref who now breaks down plays, especially the one which has calls for ESPN)

After talking about Roosh and the Houston Rockets in regard to the tweet. Pat McAfee said that the series (2022 NBA Finals Celtics vs Warriors) is going to be interesting as the refs will make it to Game 7. Further discussing the Jaylen Brown foul on Gary Payton II (there was no contact involved was pretty wide open) the sports analyst quoted: “Look how confident they look while calling a foul (does the whistle sound with action of calling a foul twice) and how confident they are with their hands yeah. Then just walk to the score table because everybody bi**hes about every single call so it’s almost like the boy who cried wolf-type situation with the players. Because players are going to get pissed by every call.”

Pat McAfee further even showed out the difference between a foul called and also a foul called and how it can spice up things for the players, especially during prime time games and postseason. Pat McAfee also brought in Quentin Richardson former NBA player and started his discussion with the second technical Draymond Green should have received but didn’t. Pat though didn’t blame the refs for it but wanted an answer for them always being in the conversation. Richardson explaining him basically said that that’s how it works and even players know that while they complain.

Further, they also talked about Draymond Green’s call and Pat McAfee got an answer for his question of referees picking and choosing but again that can’t be confirmed.
