“The only thing I know is the playoffs” Patrick Beverley leaves fans in splits after ‘worst’ attempt to catch up with Utah Jazz
Patrick Beverley
Western Conference powerhouse Utah Jazz began their ’rebuilding’ phase by trading Rudy Gobert to Minnesota Timberwolves. They received guard Patrick Beverley in the process, who seemed excited to start a new venture at Salt Lake City. But with recent rumors surrounding another Jazz star player Donovan Mitchell, the guard is not currently sure what his future holds. Having just been dealt to Utah in the Rudy Gobert trade, Beverley is waiting to see which direction the Jazz are heading. And as outspoken as he is, he fires his reaction to the Jazz’s decisions.
While there is no official indication that the Utah Jazz is heading towards a full rebuild, the Rudy Gobert trade sparked speculation that the organization could also move on from Donovan Mitchell, signifying the start of a complete rebuild. If both the megastars are traded, then Jazz will start tanking and try to get the top pick for the next draft selection. But Beverley is not interested in tanking, as he made the playoffs each year of his career, excluding 2017-18 where he played just 11 games.
Patrick Beverley wants a clear stand from Utah Jazz
The 34-year-old player has been in the league for 11 years now and made it to the postseason in each of those seasons as explained earlier. Though he was released by Miami Heat in 2008 following his 42nd overall selection, he played in the Euro league and Russian League also winning many personal accolades outside States. He has a fighting spirit and competitive nature that sets him apart from many other NBA Stars. Former defensive 1st team player has always been ready for some tough matchups in playoffs.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Jazz is indeed listening to offers for Mitchell. General manager Justin Zanik also recently said the team has “no intent” to trade Mitchell, but noted no one is untouchable and “change is inevitable.”
This only intensifies the speculation that they may be headed towards full rebuild mode. And if Utah were to begin a rebuild, keeping 34-year-old Patrick Beverley and his expiring contract around for next season makes little sense.
For Beverley, who has helped lead every organization he has played with to the playoffs, he just wants to know what the plan is. He mentioned, “Utah, ya’ll tryna win or ya’ll tryna tank? Let me know,” Beverley said during an Instagram live session. “We gonna take Utah all the way, or Utah gonna say they don’t need me, and we can go somewhere else?”
Patrick seems open to either scenario, assuming the Jazz would help him land elsewhere if they plan to rebuild. But Beverley does have special mentions on the Los Angeles Lakers. With several Lakers fans spamming the comments of his IG live, asking Beverley to join their team, the veteran guard said, “They want me to go to the Lakers? Same people that was booing the shit out of me when I was with the Clippers.”
The Chicago-born star finished last year with averages of 9.2 points, 4.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game, and was electrified when the Wolves reached the playoffs knocking off his former team LA Clippers in the process. With his experience and defensive ability, Beverley can be a major asset for a contender. However, he might not be as useful for a rebuilding team.
Considering his age, utility, and contract, Patrick Beverly has every right to have full knowledge about the franchise’s plans, before training camp begins.
