The Lakers are getting all the limelight this postseason, but Patrick Beverley is still not impressed with their progress after they appointed Darvin Ham as their new Head Coach for the 2022-2023 season. Lakers get to grips with their disastrous season and had been looking for change in personnel. The Los Angeles Lakers star-studded team not making into the playoffs was and has been one of the biggest talking points in and around the world of NBA. With One of the All-Time Greats, LeBron James himself, and two future Hall of Famers in Anthony Davis and freshly traded, Russell Westbrook, the Lakers looked scary on paper, not so much on court.

Lakers had won the NBA Championship just 2 years ago in 2020, under the supervision of the head coach, Frank Vogel. They now find themselves in need of a coach after ending their worst season ever in franchise history and firing Frank. With the clock ticking on LeBron James’ future with the organization, they faced even more pressure to call the right shots and it appears Darvin is the right choice.

Ham played in the NBA for eight seasons and has been a highly-regarded assistant since 2008, including with the Lakers from 2011-13. Ham has worked under Mike Budenholzer with the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks and has interviewed for numerous head jobs. In 2011 Ham got his first coaching opportunity with the Los Angeles Lakers, it was Mitch Kupchak Lakers GM at the time who gave him his first coaching job in the NBA. As an assistant coach his focus was on player development, during that time he became well respected throughout the NBA.

It was a new day for Lakers Nation, who got an official introduction of Darwin Ham as the new head coach. Despite a disappointing outing last season, the purple and gold are looking to run it back with its veteran crew, having exhausted most of its resources. The Los Angeles Lakers, who entered the season as championship contenders, failed to make the play-in tournament. Whether it’s the Westbrook or Anthony Davis trade, Pelinka and co have exhausted most of their draft picks. The purple and gold organization went the extra mile for King James. Unfortunately, both AD and Russ have failed to deliver, whether it’s health concerns or poor performances.

The front office agreed to part ways with the young guns on the roster, coupled with future draft picks, unknowingly preparing for a disaster to haunt them for the next couple of years. Matters only became worse with Westbrook being a complete misfit on the team. Lebron James played a big role in building this team and he got exactly what he wanted, he got involved in personnel decisions, favoring Westbrook over DeMar DeRozan.

The whole Russell Westbrook trade is still a giant head-scratcher. The Lakers had a pretty solid bench that was traded away for Westbrook. General Manager Rob Pelinka appeased Lebron James by getting Russel Westbrook and trading away Kuzma and KCP, which added to their problems even more.

Though there is no scarcity of talent on the roster, the Lakers need to figure a way to win games. While discussing the future of the purple and gold on NBA Today, Patrick Beverley Beverley had his sense of humor on display. The host of the show, Malika Andrews, addressed how the earliest draft pick the Lakers had to offer was in 2027, to which Beverley replied, “So a 12-year-old.”

Pat Bev’s comments had co-panelist NBA veteran Vince Carter break into laughter. Sadly, Beverley’s statement is the bitter reality based on facts. UCLA junior Johnny Jazang, was among the prospects to participate in a pre-draft workout with the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday, the team announced. As LeBron gets ready for the upcoming season, the team will have to give him more reinforcements to bring back the legacy of the Lakers. Lebron James and Laker nation will be itching to get back to the top and find a way to put them back in their place next season.
