Patrick Beverley‘s trade to the Milwaukee Bucks has been finalized. The defensive stalwart has already packed his bags and is on his way to Milwaukee. Beverley however, is surprised by this move. He was assured that he would not be traded. At least that is what he was told by Philadelphia 76ers General Manager Daryl Morey. But, two weeks later, the tables have turned. Fans do not like how Morey has broken his word again.

Patrick Beverley was speaking on his podcast, The Pat Bev Podcast with Rone, as the trade broke through. Beverley talks about a conversation between him and Morey the day after former coach Doc Rivers is revealed as the new head coach of the Bucks. The 76ers were looking at trades to improve the team. Beverley asked Morey if he was going to be traded. Morey replied saying:

You? No no, not you… of course not.
Daryl Morey replied

Two weeks later, those words have been broken. Rone adds in to say that this basically makes Morey a liar. He lied to Beverley back then.

This situation is akin to what former teammate James Harden revealed about Morey. Harden said that Morey went back on his promise of giving him a Max contract. That prompted Harden to seek a trade out of the 76ers, eventually landing in Los Angeles. Now it seems the same has affected Beverley’s case.

Patrick Beverley was traded to the Bucks in exchange for Cam Payne and a 2027 second-round pick. The move reunites Beverley with head coach Rivers, who has coached him twice before. Rivers’ understanding of Beverley’s defensive acumen as well as competitiveness were the reasons for them trading for him.

Basketball fans saw a repeat telecast of the James Harden scenario. They did not expect another star to call Daryl Morey a liar. After all, a second instance in the space of a few months will paint a negative picture of Morey. Players may not trust his words anymore.
