Patrick Ewing, a former NBA player, testified in 2001 against a strip club owner who was being tried for racketeering offences such prostitution, fraud, and money laundering. The legendary New York Knicks player acknowledged having oral s*x with club dancers in front of the club owner during his testimony.

When he first joined the Magic in 2001, Patrick Ewing claimed to have been to the Atlanta strip club approximately ten times. He said that when owner Steven Kaplan and the manager were there and he received special privileges. Ewing’s testimony as a prosecution witness was intended to strengthen the federal government’s case against Kaplan, owner of Atlanta’s Gold Club, who is suspected of paying his staff to engage in sexual activity with well-known athletes in order to increase the club’s profile and entice potential paying customers. In a federal racketeering prosecution, Kaplan and his six partners were accused of aiding prostitution, extortion, money laundering, credit card fraud, and bribery of Atlanta police.

Patrick Ewing never captured an NBA title, but during the course of his 17-year career, he reached the NBA Finals twice and entered the playoffs 14 times. He averaged 20.2 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.2 blocks per game in 139 postseason games throughout the course of his career. Ewing spent 13 of his 14 years playing with the New York Knicks, making him a legend in the city. He was a member of the NBA 75th and 50th Anniversary Teams, a 11-time All-Star, a seven-time All-NBA, a three-time All-Defensive player, and the 1985-86 Rookie of the Year. He is regarded as one of the greatest 10 centres of all time and was inducted into the HOF in 2008.

Ewing and his strip club controversy

In a trial, Patrick Ewing, a former centre for the New York Knicks who later joined the Orlando Magic, acknowledged to twice receiving sexual favors from dancers at a strip club while the owner and management looked on. Ewing’s testimony as a prosecution witness was intended to strengthen the federal government’s case against Steven Kaplan, former owner of the Gold Club in Atlanta, who was accused of paying his staff to have s*x with well-known athletes in order to boost the club’s profile and entice potential paying customers. Later, as part of a plea deal, strippers testified in court that they engaged in sexual activity with celebrities and other well-known athletes or saw it happen.

Ewing said that his first visit to the club was during his 1996 Olympic trip to Atlanta, and that his second sexual encounter took place in either 1997 or 1998. Ewing testified that he never compensated the club, the dancers for the oral s*x he had, the beverages, or entry to the VIP area where the occurrences transpired. Ewing reportedly said that the guys offered to send a dancer with him for intercourse at his hotel, but he turned them down. After giving his testimony for around 25 minutes, he left the courthouse without giving any testimony on other players having s*x with dancers.
