Paul George‘s unavailability coupled with superstar forward Kawhi Leonard‘s own injury problems haven’t yielded positive results with both George and the Clippers yet to win their first ever NBA Championship. On his podcast ‘Podcast P with Paul George’, George recently opened up about the disdain he once had for his current team who didn’t draft him and instead selected forward Al-Farouq Aminu with the 8th pick in the draft.

“I was drafted 10th. Clippers had the 8th pick, I had a hell of a workout for the Clippers. They ended up picking Al-Farouq Aminu. So it was smoke from that point on every time I played the Clippers,” said George. Aminu ended up playing just one season with the Clippers and was traded to the New Orleans Hornets, a deal that would help the Clippers land one of the greatest point guards of all time in Chris Paul.

While Aminu last played in the NBA for the Chicago Bulls during the 2020-21 season, George is one of the two players from his draft who is still playing in the NBA. The other player is Gordon Hayward. Considering George has been an 8-time All Star, part of the All-NBA First Team in 2019 and is one of the best two-way players in the game today, the Clippers definitely made a mistake in drafting Aminu ahead of him.

Paul George was drafted as the 10th overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft by the Indiana Pacers and spent 7 seasons with team before being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2017. After a couple of disappointing seasons, George was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in 2019. He has since played 4 seasons with the franchise but has missed quite a lot of playing time due to injuries at crucial junctures.

Going into the 2023/24 season, the Clippers will have only and only one aspiration – to win the NBA Championship. Nothing else will do. After playing 4 seasons with the team, George and Leonard will be itching to win the first-ever NBA title for the Clippers. It all comes down to one word – health. If their two superstars can remain healthy through the course of the season, the Clippers will have a real chance at going all the way.

George’s name has sprung up a lot in trade conversations this off season. The New York Knicks, along with a few other teams, were reportedly interested, but nothing moved forward eventually. The upcoming season could be a make-or-break for George if the Clippers fail to win a championship yet again. George has proven in the 2021 playoffs that he is capable of carrying the team on his back in Leonard’s absence, but to win it all, he will need Leonard and, more importantly himself, to remain healthy.
