Since the 1999-2000 season, the Los Angeles Clippers and the Los Angeles Lakers have shared the Crypto.com Arena. While the Lakers have won six championships since then, the Clippers are yet to make their mark in the coveted arena. Their best chance to achieve that success was when Paul George and Kawhi Leonard joined their organization in 2019, but they haven’t achieved the goal yet.
Talking about the big dogs in LA, George addressed the reality of being a Clippers player in LA and how the staff at the Crypto.com Arena treats the players in the recent episode of “Podcast P with Paul George,” where he had fellow teammate Terrance Mann as a guest while discussing the subject.
George said that while they shared the space with the Lakers, it’s a weird dynamic because when they go to the weight room, LeBron James will have his stuff with the Lakers and his logo on it, which makes them feel like the little bros of LA.
“I talked earlier how we share a spot with the Lakers at Crypto,” George said. “We share the space there and it’s a weird dynamic because we’ll go in the weight room and Bron got his s**t. It’s wild, Bron got his s**t with his logos on it and it just feels like it’s the Lakers… It feels like we the little bros over there.“
Los Angeles Clippers to get their own arena in the 2024-25 season
The LA Clippers will finally be able to play in their own arena as soon as the 2024-25 season. Owner Steve Ballmer has invested an enormous sum of money into the Intuit Dome, whose value is projected to be around $1.8 billion, approximately the same amount Ballmer paid to buy the Clippers back in 2014.
The Clippers were initially based in San Diego and moved to LA in 1984, where they played in the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena until they started playing in the Staples Center in 1999. The “little bros of LA,” as George calls his team, would like to start the season in the new arena with a ring night to inaugurate the new arena.
With Paul George and Kawhi Leonard up for extensions this year, it would be interesting to see if they even play in the arena as Clippers because of their injury woes, which might make the Clippers reluctant to give both stars max extensions they might be looking to sign. So, the fate of the Clippers will be determined in the next season.
