“How and when did this happen?” Paul Pierce destroys Ben Simmons amid news of his back surgery
Paul Pierce and Ben Simmons
When the Brooklyn Nets were able to acquire Ben Simmons in place of James Harden, many expected the team from Barclays Center to fill all their back-court void in the mega deadline day trade. However, the Australian playmaker failed to make any appearances in the regular season, yet there were reports of him making his debut for his new team during the playoff series vs Celtics until reports of a potential back injury broke down.
Not only did Ben Simmons’ absence proved the trade of James Harden to be an absolute waste, but it even triggered plethora of analysts and former players to lose their cool on the Australian. The latest to add to that list is Paul Pierce who seemed to be perplexed now, with reports of Ben Simmons underdoing a back surgery. Pierce raised a major question on twitter, take a look at the same.

Paul Pierce on Ben Simmons
“I’m trying to figure out did I miss that game Ben Simmons hurt his back when did this all happen,” Pierce tweeted. It is considered a little strange that there never has been a precise reason given for the back injury. Reportedly, Simmons has been dealing with back issues going back to 2020.
That being said, Steve Nash’ Brooklyn Nets likely assumed that when they traded for Simmons that he would suit up for them this year. Shortly after acquiring the former All-Star, news of Ben Simmons’ mental health being an issue came to the forefront. That’s quite honestly a very difficult thing for any professional athlete in today’s society to acknowledge. Yet, he was ridiculed mercilessly online. Shortly thereafter, it was reported that Simmons was dealing with a back injury. The All-Star will have a microdiscectomy on Thursday. The procedure is designed to alleviate pain caused by the herniated L-4 disk in his back.
Lastly, with the build-up to 2022-23 season already underway, it would be interesting to witness how Simmons could line up alongside Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving finally in the upcoming season. Will we witness the greatest on-court for the Nets? Or are these spoken off players going to experience more misery? Remains to be seen.
