Paul Pierce embraces Ray Allen as his brother

Paul Pierce had no interest in bringing negative vibes to Boston celebrations, as the Celtics emerged victorious against Miami. The Celtics led wire-to-wire, and responded every time the Heat went on a run. Miami went on a late run and cut the deficit to two points, but Boston managed to hang on for the win. Jimmy Butler did most of the offensive work for Miami, finishing with 35 points while playing the entire game, however Butler’s heroics were not enough this time as Boston held their nerve and handed Miami a heartbreaking loss in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Time always heals wounds” – Paul Pierce quashes beef with Ray Allen

The 2008 Celtics Championship team was a stellar group of player. As good as the connections seemed to be on the court, it seems like things may have been the polar opposite off of it. So many notable beefs sprouted from members of that team, but not a single one might be more notable than Ray Allen against the entire Celtics team. Members of that Celtics championship team, which included Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo, felt betrayed beyond belief when Allen left Boston in 2012 to sign with the Miami Heat, who had eliminated the Celtics in the 2012 Eastern Conference Finals, and eventually became NBA Champions.

Allen denied the existence of any ‘beef’ between him and his former Boston teammates, justifying his departure by saying how ecstatic he was for his new journey with Miami. Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce did not share the sentiment initially, however the gang reunited during the All-Star weekend earlier this year. The trio reconnected and shared a hug at the center of the court during Garnett’s jersey retirement.

Pierce described the experience as a “special moment” and how wounds heal as time passes by. He shared on ‘The Hoop Genius’ podcast that Allen was instrumental in their successes as they were a special group who achieved greatness together.

“That was a special moment, especially at Kevin’s retirement, He was able to do something very special in Boston for a lot of years and, you know, it just was only time, always heals wounds and we all know that. And you know we didn’t like the way Ray exited, but you know we did some special together and brothers are always gonna be brothers at the end of the day,” he continued. “It’s all happy we were able to come together and mend the fences and move on from what happened in the past.” Paul explained.

Things weren’t always the smoothest between Allen and the group, but they really fell apart when Allen left the Celtics to join LeBron James’ Miami Heat in the 2012-13 season, which led to a once strong big 3 just fall completely apart. He wanted to win a championship with LeBron James and he did. Apparently, its all water under the bridge as Paul explained in his podcast, something he has stated before in 2017, “brothers will be brothers”.

As the old Celtics legends bury the hatchet, they will be watching closely as the young guns from Boston try and take over the world in the NBA Finals. Tatum has been monumental in Boston’s success this year, although a Final hurdle for him is yet to be crossed, as the Celtics prepare to face off against the mighty Warriors in the NBA Finals.
