Paul Pierce, the Celtics legend going bankrupt soon?

Early in his career, Paul Pierce set out to prove his doubters, and he more than succeeded in doing so. The Boston Celtics’ hero in the 2000s, Pierce guided the franchise to an NBA championship in 2008 and another trip to the Finals in 2010, all the while cementing his place in Celtics history with both impressive stats and unforgettable memories. He had solidified his status as a Celtics legend in a team that was filled with them. He leads the team in 3-pointers made, free throws made, and steals and he is third in the all-time win-share rankings, ahead of John Havlicek and Bill Russell.

In the end, he would make one final basket—a layup in his stint with the Clippers—to surpass Havlicek on the NBA’s all-time scoring record by two points. He placed 15th overall with 26,397 points, solidifying his position as one of the players that dominated his generation. The gifted forward was a 10-time All-Star, three-time member of the All-NBA Third Team, three-time member of the All-Rookie First Team, and a three-point shootout champion. He also owns a number of Celtics records, m oreover, he will always belong among the NBA’s most clutch players.

The recent past has brought Pierce’s poker addiction and improper behavior into the spotlight. According to reports, Stephen Carmona has filed a lawsuit against Paul Pierce for the $180,000 plus interest that Pierce borrowed from Carmona. Pierce reportedly used the borrowed money to participate in expensive poker games. Fans are left wondering why Pierce would need to borrow money in the first place considering that he reportedly earned $198 million in salary over the course of 19 NBA seasons. This incident lends even more support to rumors that Pierce is battling an addiction, as recently as 2021, Pierce had a net worth of $70 million.

After appearing in an Instagram Live session with exotic dancers last spring, ESPN terminated Pierce from his role as a presenter and commentator. According to reports, Pierce was let go after joining the network in 2017 and contributing to “The Jump” and “NBA Countdown.” The Truth might still have money in the bank, but he just has a hard time staying out of trouble. One can only assume about the former star’s situation until the court processes in this case, which are certain to provide some clarity.
