Pelicans’ Jaxson Hayes avoids JAIL TIME after heated altercation with Los Angeles police

Jaxson Hayes

Jaxson Hayes of New Orleans Pelicans was arrested on July 28, 2021, after police responded to a domestic violence call around 3 am in the morning. He was with his girlfriend in Los Angeles last summer but had become loud and violent towards her which led to her cousins calling out LAPD for help. Jaxson Hayes got into some physical altercations with the police officers as they weren’t allowing him inside the house while the officers were questioning his girlfriend separately. He even shoved an officer to the wall which caused an elbow injury (He also mentioned his girlfriend was throwing stuff at her). In order to, stop the altercations and have the Pelicans’ forward on the ground and under the control the officers used a stun gun on him twice and one even had to kneel on his neck which made the 6 foot 11 inches big man say: “I can’t breathe”.

Later the Pelicans’ forward and the injured police officer both were treated in a hospital. The police body camera had the whole scuffle recorded and he was soon booked into jail on many different accusations. Jaxson Hayes was charged with 12 counts and was in a lot of trouble and even had the franchise worried. As he was drafted 8th overall in the 2019 NBA draft and was a very important rotational player coming off the bench as a difference-maker when given an opportunity and trusted with the ball on both ends.

On February 24, 2022, he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor counts of false imprisonment and resisting an officer. Jaxson Hayes has managed to avoid jail time but still will have to pay the price for his heated altercations with the cops. As on Tuesday, he was sentenced to three years of probation, 450 hours of community service and a year of weekly domestic violence classes for a scuffle with officers. He is also ordered to pay restitution (amount yet to be determined) and the next three years he’ll be on probation but any more crimes via his side can book him in for some good years.

Jaxson Hayes will be attending the 52-week-long domestic violence classes online and his community service will be conducted in his residential area and not in Los Angeles. All these have surely put dirt on his name but that can be cleaned and he can also step up his game in the next season and shut down all the mouths who are now doubting his career as an NBA player.

Jaxson Hayes’s impact and role with the New Orleans Pelicans

Jaxson Hayes in the regular season averaged 9.3 points and 4.5 rebounds while suiting up in 70 games and starting 28 out of those. Even in the playoffs run after winning in the Play-in tournament he showcased some glimpse of his greatness on both ends of the court especially the defensive one by locking up the rival stars. The New Orleans Pelicans didn’t had a deep and solid run this year in the postseason as they missed on their star player. But the future is great as they’ll put in the work during their ongoing offseason and come back better with improvements made. Many are also expecting the forward to start more games and have a big role with increased responsibilities.
