“I am still the focal point of my opponents’ scouting reports” LeBron James gets cheeky about his second decade in the NBA amid retirement talks
LeBron James is playing at a high level even at the age of 38 and in his 20th NBA season. He said that he is still a threat for every team in the league. James also added that he wants to play for championships.

LeBron James
LeBron James continues to amaze the basketball world with his unprecedented longevity. At age 38, though he might not be as fast as he was 10 years ago, he might not have as high verticality as he had a decade ago, but he can still dominate. Despite losing his quickness and athleticism, James is easily a top 10 player in the league. Dave McMenamin sat down with the Los Angeles Lakers star to talk about his career and the pursuit of breaking Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s scoring record.
When Dave asked James about playing at an extremely high level in his year 20, the 4 x MVP said that despite his preparation and training his mind and body for the best it does hold a special place for him. “It means a lot in the sense of me always preparing my body, always preparing my mind, and to be at my best,” said LeBron.
Not many players after hitting 35+ years of age in the league continue to be the focal point of the opposing coach’s defense. While James still has Davis, a younger star, considering James’ ability to break defense in multiple ways, he still is the first threat to the opponent’s defensive wall. “To be able to go out and still be a focal point of my opponents’ scouting reports…let’s me know I am still playing at high level,” the 4 x NBA champion said.

LeBron James reiterates that he wants to play for the championships

After the loss against the Miami Heat, a few weeks ago, James appeared disappointed with how his fate in year 20 was turning out to be. The Lakers had lost 4 consecutive games while Anthony Davis sits out due to a foot injury. James made it clear that he wasn’t just playing basketball because he love to play. He was in the league fighting for a championship like everyone in the league. “I don’t wanna finish my career playing at this level, from a team aspect. I wanna still be able to compete for championships,” LeBron had said.
He reiterated that he prepares and gets ready every day and comes to his ball club to win championships. He remarked, “I want to continue to play at a high level, I want to continue to play at a championship level.” The 18 x All-Star also added that being respected as a high-level player at 38 years of age feels good. “Still be respected everytime I touch the floor as a threat…that means a lot to me,” James added.
