Stephen Curry wasn’t joking when he said that he and the Golden State Warriors were going to problem for the entire league at the beginning of 2021. And look what happened, the rest of the league was late to see what the GSW was cooking. However, one can best believe, that teams in the NBA are already for ways to stop the Warriors and their star player Steph “Chef” Curry from pulling off yet another two-peat.
Golden State Warriors absolutely ran through almost every team they faced in the playoffs and were clearly the best in the league last season. With the 2022-23 season of the NBA lurking around the corner, it is only right if we discuss the potential trios from NBA teams that could put an end to Steph’s aspirations to bag the 5th ring of his professional career in 2023. Let’s check out five TRIOS in the NBA next season that could challenge Stephen Curry and the Warriors for the championship.
1) The Boston Celtics
You can’t possibly talk about potential championship challengers without including last year’s finalists, the Boston Celtics. The Celtics really put on an inspiring run to the finals by being the best team in the Eastern Conference last year. The trio of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Marcus Smart truly put hope in the fans of the prestigious team.
Though the Celtics did not have the best record in the East last year, the superstar trio surely stepped up when it mattered to defeat the Miami Heat in the conference finals. Despite the 4-2 defeat to the Warriors in the NBA finals, the young trio showed a lot of promise for the upcoming seasons. Jayson Tatum, 24, and Jaylen Brown, 25, have already dealt with top players from the league and proved that they can hold their own. With Tatum being the main man and his ability to turn things around in a game, you can best believe the Celtics will look to exact revenge against Steph and the Warriors.
2) The Milwaukee Bucks
The Milwaukee Bucks Big 3 are never to be counted off. Especially with the Greek Freak, Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Bucks will be returning to the 2022-23 season with full determination to give a run at the NBA trophy another time. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jrue Holiday, and Khris Middleton have to take charge of their championship dream and be at their absolute best if they want to challenge Stephen Curry and his Warriors for next season.
Giannis has the talent to take all the weight on his shoulders during the regular season. However, the playoffs are a different ball game. The main man of the Bucks will undoubtedly need his partners to take some weight off his shoulders so he can thrive at what he does best.
3) The Brooklyn Nets
This is one of the most controversial trio of all the NBA big threes. The biggest question is if these three would head into the 2022-23 season playing for the Nets. The off-season has stirred a lot of rumors about Kyrie and KD wanting a move out from the Brooklyn team. If Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and Ben Simmons, do play together for Nets next season, there is no doubt that this is a trio that could pose a great threat to any team’s championship dreams.
A fit Kyrie, KD, and a focused Simmons could create problems for everyone. Ben has been under a lot of criticism for his days in the Sixers but things look like we will get to see a new version of Simmons playing with the superstars in Nets. Durant also has a huge chip on his shoulder, now that his former team has managed to win a ring without him. That sure does give extra motivation for KD to stop Steph from pulling off yet another run at the title.
4) The Miami Heat
The Miami Heat under the leadership of Jimmy Butler was one of the best teams in the NBA. As the kids on the internet say, “They got that DAWG in them.” No matter the kind of adversities the team goes through, Butler and co have managed to show the world that they are never to be counted out.
From reaching the NBA Finals during the bubble season in 2020 and reaching the Eastern Conference Finals last year, Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro are surely one of the best trios in the NBA. This trios matchup against Stephen Curry was very much-anticipated last year, but unfortunately, Jimmy and his team couldn’t get past The Bucks.
5) Los Angeles Clippers
The LA Clippers always is on paper one of the best in the West. The Warriors will surely have to go through the Clippers if they want to achieve a two-peat. With Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, the duo needs just one addition to perform at their very best. The biggest challenge with the Clippers is to pick the next big guy in the team that could compliment Leonard and George in their mission to stop Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors. John Wall and Reggie Jackson are two players that will contest to be a part of the starting three for the LA Clippers next season.
The Phoenix Suns are surely in the mix for being one of the biggest competitions for the Warriors. However, Chris Paul’s age is a worrying factor along with his health. And there also remains to be certain about Deandre Ayton. The Denver Nuggets are another team that has a trio worth mentioning and that could prove to be dangerous. Nikola Jokic, the two-time MVP along with Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr are a deadly combo.
