The ongoing NBA GOAT debate continues to stir discussions, especially with the recent entry of former American rapper Gillie Da King. He actively engaged in the conversation, adding his perspective to the discourse on who stands next to Michael Jordan as the ultimate basketball player of all time.
Already considering Michael Jordan as his all-time greatest player, the Philadelphia native takes a stance in the debate. He selected Los Angeles Lakers‘ four-time NBA champion and superstar LeBron James over the late Kobe Bryant, another legend in Lakers history, as the successor to “His Airness.”
In his recent appearance on “It Is What It Is” on November 9, Gillie actively shared his reasons for choosing LeBron over Kobe, providing insights into his decision, saying:
Nobody had more pressure on them to succeed than LeBron James. He was on the cover of like Sports Illustrated in like the 10th grade or something, bro. LeBron James ain’t never walked into a muthaf***ing NBA locker room and put a Robin uniform on. He always was Batman, Kobe was Robin to Shaq’s Batman. Shaq won all the fuckin’ MVPs, Shaq won all the Finals MVPs.
The ongoing debate surrounding both players, Kobe and LeBron, continues to fuel division among fans regarding who deserves the spot next to MJ as the ultimate basketball player. LeBron, with four NBA championships (2012, 2013, 2016, 2020), and Kobe, with five (2000-2002, 2009, 2010), keep the discussion lively and contested.
LeBron’s longevity sets him apart from the rest of the pack
Celebrating his 39th birthday yesterday, LeBron James continues to defy nature with his remarkable performances. As the oldest player in the league entering the 2023-24 season, he showcases extraterrestrial abilities that the league has never witnessed before, on a regular basis.
Even at 39, he’s still a vital cog to the Lakers team and not playing second fiddle. As American rapper Lil Wayne put it during an appearance with “All the Smoke” podcast:
I got old enough to know how hard it is to do it back-to-back-to-back. So that's where he started getting his respect with me to where he's the greatest. It's very hard to do, and that n***a Bron did that shit with three different teams. He ain’t got six, but he done it with three different teams. And not on one of those muthafuckin’ teams did he play role two. That right there is what tipped him over the Jordan scale for me.” Lil Wayne ended.
In the ongoing season, he maintains an impressive average of 25.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.3 assists, coupled with a noteworthy field goal percentage of 50.5.
