In his recent interview at Complex, Rick Ross shared a crazy story concerning him almost signing with the rapper and philanthropist Shaquille O’Neal’s record label, T.W.IsM. Records, in the 1990s. Before hitting the studios with Meek Mill, the rapper reflected on the fateful encounter that could have led him nowhere in life.

Ross recalled this meeting distinctly stating they had talked about it at the airport when he met Shaq in Atlanta so many years ago. Following an experience in a restaurant, Ross played a couple of off-the-beat lines in the back of the premises for the NBA legend. This meeting had long-lasting impacts of which Shaq provided Ross with his contacts which resulted in some communication and maybe collaboration. Unfortunately, for Ross, the deal never materialised.

During the conversation, Ross stated:

Many years ago I met with Shaq. He was launching his T.W.IsM. Records. We met in Atlanta somewhere. We met in a restaurant. Then we went in the back, in the kitchen. I spit a few bars for him. He gave me his contact, [and] we stayed in touch for a little bit. But, you know how that go.

Despite initially appearing to be promising for both parties, he decided against a business engagement with T.W.Ism. Records. Shaq has been on a music venture called “Shaq and Kobe” in collaboration with Dami Lillard. However, the result does not mean that it has anything or affected their friendship. Shaq and Ross’ friendship still holds, showcasing a bond that extends past the realm of the music industry itself.

Rick Ross teases potential Shaq signing: A playful twist in the rap game

To this end, during some play, Ross said:

“Sh*t, I may even sign him. Why not?"

Such a light-hearted remark shows that the duo has a good rapport and respects each other on other platforms outside of business. The news that Rick Ross was in touch with Shaq’s record label spices up an interesting dimension to Rick Ross’s legendary career. Anticipation is rife ahead of a release date set for 10th November by Ross and Meek Mill.

Along with collaborating on wax, Rick Ross and Meek Mill surprised everyone on Inside the NBA, by showing up with Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, Ernie Johnson, and Kenny “The Jet” Smith.
