The Golden State Warriors-Sacramento Kings playoffs series has become the most talked-about series in the opening round of the 2022-23 NBA Playoffs. The Kings have shocked the world by taking a 2-0 lead over the defending champions and will not head to Chase Center in San Francisco, hoping to increase their lead.
While Sacramento has undoubtedly produced two incredible displays, many have pointed out that the referees haven’t been at their best while officiating the game. Fans and critics claim the Warriors have been penalized for soft fouls, whereas the Kings players haven’t been whistled as often. At the forefront of those leading the charge against allegedly biased refereeing is JJ Redick.
Redick spoke about how he thinks the match officials have dictated the result of the game. He spoke vehemently on the foul calling for both teams saying the referees are in Kings’ favor. The suspension of Draymond Green further fueled this belief for many. The Warriors star was initially ejected from Game 2 for stepping on Domantas Sabonis’ chest. The league then suspended him for that action and the decision did not sit well with the fans.
During an appearance on ESPN’s First Take, Redick said, “I have no problem with physical play in the playoffs. Steph Curry isn’t allowed to move off the ball. You’re preventing players from moving down the court and you’re allowing that to happen.” Redick was visibly fired up during his criticism of the referees. “There’s a play late in Game 2 where Kevon Looney is right underneath the rim ready for a rebound. Sabonis crashes in pushes him in the back. They don’t call that a foul,” he said pointing out an instance of the visible bias.
“The referees have dictated too much in the Kings’ favor in this series, I really believe that,” Redick said. Moreover, he also said that he never complains about the referees and thinks they’re great. However, the referees need to do a better job in the upcoming games. “If they’re gonna come back in the series they’ve gotta call the game the way it is supposed to be called,” he concluded.
How do the Warriors look ahead of Game 3?

The Golden State Warriors are in a tough position heading into Game 3. They have previously come back from deficits, but this is the first time they’re down 0-2. Moreover, the suspension of their front-running defender is gonna create a huge gap in their defense. The Warriors haven’t been the best defensive team as it is. Needless to say, Draymond Green‘s absence could potentially worsen things for Stephen Curry and co.
However, the Warriors have had one of the best home records in the regular season. As disappointing as their record on the road was, Golden State has defended their home court really well. They’ve gone 33-8 in their home games this season. Therefore, heading to the Bay Area in San Francisco the Warriors will look to win both Games 3 and 4 and level the series 2-2.
Although the Warriors will feel optimistic about their home games record, the Kings are one of the best offensive groups this season. However, Domantas Sabonis is questionable for the next game due to a sternum contusion. The Warriors will look to exploit this tiny hole in the Kings’ offense if Sabonis sits out of Game 3. It’s a must-win game for the Warriors. A 0-3 deficit will not only deflate the team’s morale, but also leave absolutely no margin for errors for the rest of the series.
